Green Deal Home Improvement Fund closed

The cashback scheme for energy efficiency improvements has been shut following a surge in applications.

The Government has closed the Green Deal Home Improvement Fund early after a surge of applications this week.

We reported how the cashback amounts were being reduced after £50 million was allocated to households to carry out energy efficiency improvements. But the demand was so great that the fund has now run out.

The Home Improvement Fund launched on 9th June and the improvements eligible for cashback included solid wall insulation, cavity wall insulation and double glazing.

There were just 1,736 applications in the first week after the cashback offer launched, but that grew to 21,683 in the final week before the fund was closed.

If you applied at the last minute, the Government says all applications received by the closing date and that meet the eligibility criteria will be honoured at the original cashback rates.

The Government says it may launch a further cashback offer if fresh money is found.

The demand for this offer has finally kickstarted the Green Deal, which had been largely shunned since its launch in January 2013.
