Asda and Tesco cut petrol prices
The cost of petrol is once again being cut at certain supermarkets.
A new round of petrol price cuts has started with Asda and Tesco confirming a drop from tomorrow.
Both supermarkets will cut prices of petrol by an average of 2 pence per litre (ppl) and diesel by 1ppl across the UK.
Supermarket petrol prices
Asda has enforced a nationwide cap on the price of petrol, meaning drivers will pay no more than 126.7ppl on petrol and 134.7ppl for diesel, no matter where in the UK they fill up.
Tesco quickly followed Asda's move to cut its prices, confirming an identical price drop at all of its 498 filling stations.
It's a welcome move in the run up to Christmas, when many of us are facing the prospect of long drives to see family. The cuts have been attributed to the fact that wholesale prices are currently at their lowest level since November.
At the time of writing Morrisons and Sainsbury's had not announced price cuts.
Price falls
In the autumn drivers benefitted from a series of petrol price cuts across the four leading supermarkets Tesco, Asda, Morrisons and Sainsbury’s.
But although today’s news is positive, it brings prices back to exactly the same level they were after October’s price drop.

How to save money on petrol
While it’s impossible to do anything about wholesale prices, you can make some small changes to cut the amount you spend on your car.
The website petrolprices.com is vital as it lists local petrol stations and the prices they charge. As there is a huge difference between how much retailers charge, checking on the website before you get in your car will save you money.
Keeping your car in good condition, using offers when you see them and cutting the speed of your driving will all help to lower costs.

John, here we are 3 days after the article which says: "Both supermarkets will cut prices of petrol by an average of 2 pence per litre (ppl) and diesel by 1ppl across the UK." Tesco in Newbury have still not changed the prices which are, as stated on the 17th 130.9ppl. Where do you get these figures from? Are you just cutting and pasting press releases from supermarkets? I realise that you don't actually control the price but if you are going to advertise on behalf of these supermarkets I think that you should make clear to them that you will also slate them if they are proved to have lied to you, which, in this case, they demonstrably have.

@John Fitzimmons Correcting errors which would not be acceptable in a fourth form essay is NOT taking a personal dig at your staff, as you well know. If other readers keep making the same predictable (and hypocritical) comments then I'll keep taking digs based on my expertise in certain subjects, which you have no problem verifying as you know exactly who I am and what my day job is. Did I get 732 'likes' from making unpopular comments, or am I missing something?
