Follow these top tips to protect yourself against ID fraud
In today’s video, I’m going to highlight five ways you can protect yourself from becoming a victim of ID fraud.
Monitor your bank account
Firstly, it’s well worth checking your bank account on a regular basis and looking out for any unusual transactions.
This is really easy to do with the lovemoney.com online banking tool which allows you to see all your bank statements at a single glance, so you’ll easily be able to spot any dodgy transactions. So every time you visit lovemoney.com, you can quickly log into the online banking service!
Keep your PIN private
Don’t tell anyone your PIN and don’t write it down. Try to avoid using the same PIN for all your cards, and don’t make it something obvious such as your birthday.
It’s also worth covering your PIN when you withdraw money from a cash machine or use a Chip & PIN device in a shop.
Shred your documents
Make sure you carefully dispose of all documents that show your name and address, preferably by shredding them. This includes bank statements, letters from your doctor, and utility bills.
Don’t give out details
Never give out your personal details on the phone or by email unless you know exactly who you are dealing with and you know they are from a legitimate company. If you have received a phone call, it can be a good idea to hang up and phone back yourself.
Check your credit record
Finally, you should also check your credit report on a regular basis as this lists all credit commitments and recent credit applications. This means you will easily see whether someone has been trying to use your ID. You can sign up to a free credit report trial with Experian.
So hopefully by following these top tips, you’ll be able to fight back against ID fraud.
That’s it from me today. Thanks for watching lovemoney.com
