Amazon rolls out Sunday delivery service

The online retailer will offer Sunday deliveries in seven UK towns and cities, but only to Amazon Prime members.

Amazon is now offering a Sunday delivery service for its Amazon Prime members in seven UK towns and cities.

Prime shoppers in London, Birmingham, Milton Keynes, Oxford, Nottingham, Manchester and Leeds will now be able to take advantage of this option at the checkout.

The service has been rolled out to more areas after a successful trial in London in the run up to Christmas.

The Sunday delivery service will be provided by the Amazon Logistics service, which works with regional delivery companies and operates a number of delivery station hubs in local areas.

Jamie Stephenson, UK Director for Amazon Logistics said: “Delivery on a Sunday means every day is now an Amazon delivery day and that Prime members can enjoy even more convenience when shopping on Amazon.”

Sunday deliveries will be available to Amazon Prime members at no extra cost.

The push towards Prime

This latest move from Amazon could be seen as a further attempt to encourage shoppers to sign up to its Amazon Prime service.

Earlier this month Amazon scrapped free delivery on all orders under £10, causing the cost of purchasing the odd CD, DVD or book to jump. However the deliveries remain free if you are a Prime customer.

Amazon Prime costs £49 a year and offers free unlimited one-day delivery on all orders of any size. Being a Prime member also gets you discounts on other delivery services that might be more convenient, like evening delivery.

The new Sunday delivery benefit will be attractive to shoppers that aren’t in during the week to receive their orders.

How to save money when shopping with Amazon

Spending over £10 will trigger the free Super Saver Delivery on an Amazon order, while spending £49 a year on Amazon Prime will save you paying any delivery charges.

But if you aren’t prepared to spend more or invest in the Prime subscription you could shop around at other online retailers to see if you can get a better deal.

You could also try shopping through a cashback website. Both TopCashback and Quidco offer cashback when you shop at certain Amazon departments.

And until 31st January you can also earn cashback at Amazon with the Santander 123 Credit Card. The card is offering to pay 1% unlimited cashback on all orders with the retailer. Read more about it in: Santander 123 credit card to pay unlimited cashback on Amazon spends.
