Royal Bank of Scotland to close 44 branches

44 branches to go, including 14 that are the 'last branch in town'.
Royal Bank of Scotland has confirmed it is to close 44 branches across the UK.
14 of the closures are the ‘last branch in town’.
RBS defended the move, pointing out that there has been a 30% drop in branch transactions since 2010. It argued that many branches classed as ‘last bank in town’ are only open for a few hours a week anyway.
It also suggested that its customers are more likely to want to bank online or on their mobile anyway, and emphasised that people can still carry out many banking functions in their local Post Office.
The move follows Clydesdale and Yorkshire Banks’ decision to axe 28 “unsustainable” branches last month.

This is the bank that not so many years ago announced that it would not be closing any more branches. Never say never.

Although I mainly use online facilties my bank has only one branch in the middle of a city of quarter of a million population. As I pay-in by cash every day of the week the branch is the only means of doing so as there is no arrangement with the PO or suchlike. However as mine is a building society primarily it is extremely unlikely that it would ever close but as with most things "never say never" about anything these days. Everything seems to be on a temporary basis and, if our current Government have their way, that will include the NHS!! The only thing that is certain is that our MPs will continue to rip us off through their expenses which they milk without shame. I do feel however that the major High Street banks should offer a service to their customers but for some years now they have not done so and that is why many people do not use their branch services anymore. If a retailer treated their customers that way it would not take long for them to be out of business.
