Where to get free food and drink on your birthday!

Updated on 01 August 2013 | 4 Comments

A number of different restaurants and pubs offer tasty freebies if it happens to be your birthday!

Go out to celebrate your birthday and you can get free champagne or even dine for free at some restaurants and pubs.

In most cases claiming your birthday freebie means a few minutes' work first. Most outlets offering any form of birthday promotion expect you to register online first. This is free; because they ask for your date of birth, it means you’ll often get sent a voucher for a free drink, bottle of bubbly or even a free dinner.

In some cases you’ll also get an introductory ‘first time’ offer like a free cocktail.

Some outlets flag up details of birthday promotions on their website, so with these it’s just a case of printing the voucher and checking any terms and conditions before going along. You may need to take along some proof of your date of birth, although not all deals have to be taken on the actual ‘date’ of your birthday and will last throughout the month.

It may be possible to just pop in and claim your birthday freebie, but in most cases you’ll need to take along at least one paying guest so you can get the free bubbly, dinner, desert or whatever’s on offer.

So here’s a round up of what’s on offer………

Free milkshake

Retro American diner chain Ed’s Easy Diner offers a free milkshake worth around £4 for your birthday. Sign up online to its club and you’ll get a voucher for a free burger, plus another for a free milkshake on your birthday, which is valid for a month.

Ed’s has over twenty outlets across the country including Gateshead, Southampton, London and Leicester.

Free fish and chips

At a Brewers Fayre restaurant you can choose a free main meal on your birthday. The menu includes pub classics like fish and chips, steaks and burgers, salads and roast chicken.

If you’ve got a birthday coming up pop into an outlet and pick up a card which you can then register online. Do this at least two weeks in advance to ensure you get the birthday email, which offers a free main course when another is purchased.

And you can get 25% off the bill for friends and family birthdays too as you can register up to six people on your card, which means a discount off the total food bill once any main course is bought.

Free dinner and a cocktail

There’s a free dinner worth up to £16.99 plus a cocktail on offer at Jimmy’s buffet restaurants. There’s fourteen outlets across the country including Cardiff, Bath, Watford and Newcastle, with prices from £7.99 to £16.99 according to location and time of day.

No need to sign up with this one; just print off the ‘birthday bonanza’ voucher from the website and turn up. But you’ll need to take some friends as vouchers are only valid for groups of six or more and only on your actual birthday.

Two course dinner

You can eat for free at Brighton’s ‘House’ restaurant which is just two minutes from the seafront.

All the terms and conditions are clearly flagged up on its website; the deal is valid on the day only and states they’ll want to see proof it’s your birthday.

This is valid for bookings of four or more when each person orders a minimum of two courses. A starter and main course will set you back from around £26 a head and tables must be pre-booked to qualify.

Birthday brownies

You can get a free ‘Birthday Brownie’ desert worth £10 in any of Drake and Morgan’s six upmarket pub venues.

To bag the deal you need to book a table for two or more any time during your birthday week, mention the offer and order a minimum of two main courses.

Free champagne

If you’re in Edinburgh the Salisbury Arms will give you a free bottle of Louis Dornier champagne worth around £30. To get your birthday bubbly sign up online for its free newsletter and turn up to eat with three or more friends.

There’s a free bottle of Prosecco on offer at any of Fratello’s Italian outlets across the North East including Jesmond, Scotch Corner and Newcastle Airport. Sign up to its mailing list and you’ll get an email voucher to use any time during your birthday month. For the deal to kick in you need a table of four or more with everyone ordering a main course.

Strada sends its online members a voucher for a free bottle of Prosecco which can be used once they spend £30 within a few weeks of their birthday.

Sign up at Miller and Carter steakhouses and you’ll get free champagne when four of more of you order a main course. Plus new members get a voucher for a complimentary cocktail, so if you sign up just before your birthday you’ll bag both. Vouchers can be used at its thirty outlets which include Liverpool, Cardiff, Birmingham and Poole.

Birthday freebies or vouchers?

It's worth remembering that most birthday ‘free’ food or drink offers can’t be used in conjunction with any other deals so if you go in clutching any other discount dining vouchers, you may want to work out which option offers the best value in case it pays to keep quiet about your birthday!
