About the "You're expected to pay for everything" issue - that may not be so unreasonable. You want to go out for a meal with friends who are not rich - their budget is TGI Friday, yours is Michelin-starred. Either you slum it when you can afford much better, or you go to the nice restaurant - but then it's hardly fair to expect your friends to shell out their share for a meal that is well beyond their means. Or you want to go skiing with mates - same issue, but x100. So, you want to enjoy good times and stay friends? Pay their share, and don't complain. Or, better, go the budget route anyway and just enjoy their company.
