The annual Halifax Quality of Life Index has ranked all the districts across the UK to find out where living standards are highest. The research looked at 24 categories including average earnings, employment, health, life expectancy, personal wellbeing, education and broadband speed. Here are the top 20 places to live, and what it costs to live in them.

Most of these pairs of photos consist of a "beauty shot" such as a cathedral or an ancient town bridge, followed by one of John Prescott's awful, soul-less, thrown-together, red-brick, new-build estates. Which kind of ruins the whole picture book.
Used to go on holiday once a year to London. Won't go anywhere near the place now.
All up north in the land of the ice and snow, the midnight sun and where the hot springs flow. Wouldn't want to live in any of them especially as the mainland ones are miles from the sea.
