Luckily there are so many places to get an idea of pricing these with the likes of cex, 8 bit beyond and other stores offering game trade in on retro games. It is quite easy to sell. As with anything the better condition the item the more it is worth. I like a lot of other kids ripped them out of the boxes with excitement, So the boxed ones that do remain are worth a premium.

What a wonderful trip down memory lane. I'm 62 and have been programming since I was 19. I had access to one of the first Tandy TRS80's that arrived in the UK. A factory owner in Lancashire had brought it back from Texas believing it would help his stock control and invoicing. My brother and I together with a clever electronics chap created what was believed to be the first client-server network in the UK (possibly Europe). We used three TRS 80's and did so in 1978. A few years later, in partnership with another brilliant electronics guy I developed a full Viewdata system that was aimed at the travel agent market. This was a forerunner to the internet and was based upon the Commodore C64. The Commodore PET was a nice piece of kit. I developed one of the early stock control systems for the Wholesale Greeting Card trade on such a beast. I still have an IBM machine similar to the one pictured in this article - it's in the loft. Might just dig it out.
