Warming the hearts of viewers during its eight-year run, NBC's American Western drama Little House on the Prairie aired for nine seasons between 1974 and 1982.
The show was based on Laura Ingalls Wilder's best-selling series of books, which chronicled her unique childhood growing up in the Midwest of America between 1870 and 1894.

Matthew Charles Labyorteaux – also sometimes credited as Matthew Laborteaux or Matthew Charles – played Albert Quinn Ingalls throughout seasons five to nine of Little House on the Prairie.
The child star began acting in commercials when he was seven years old and landed his first movie role in the 1974 drama A Woman Under the Influence. The following year, he scored guest roles in cop show The Rookies and sitcom Phyllis.
Labyorteaux was just 12 years old when he was cast as Albert, an orphan boy who was adopted by the Ingalls family.
Labyorteaux reprised his role as Albert in the 1983 TV movie Little House: Look Back to Yesterday. He also went on to star in the 1986 Wes Craven horror movie Deadly Friend and landed guest roles in numerous TV shows throughout the 80s and 90s, including in soap opera Hotel and western drama Paradise.
However, Labyorteaux has mostly worked on vocal roles since Little House on the Prairie wrapped. He’s lent his voice to everything from the 1998 Disney movie Mulan to the children’s TV shows Yu-Gi-Oh! GX and Winx Club.

Alison Arngrim played spoiled rich kid Nellie Oleson through seasons one to seven of Little House on the Prairie, and later reprised the role as a guest in the ninth and final season.

When she was just 12 years old, Arngrim auditioned to play leading lady Laura Ingalls in Little House on the Prairie. However, producers felt she was better suited as bratty antagonist Nellie.

Karen Grassle played Caroline Quiner Ingalls, the kind and doting matriarch of the Ingalls clan, for the first eight seasons of the show.

She also starred on Broadway in Butterflies Are Free and Shakespeare’s Cymbeline, before making her screen debut in Little House on the Prairie.

Identical twins Lindsay and Sidney Greenbush shared the role of Carrie Ingalls, the younger sister of main character Laura.
Sidney made her acting debut in the made-for-TV drama Sunshine in 1973.
The child star was just four years old when she was cast in Little House on the Prairie the following year, sharing the role with her sister.
When Little House on the Prairie ended, Sidney (pictured in 1980 with her twin) went on to star in the made-for-TV spin-off movie Little House Years in 1979. In 1983, she was cast in comedy movie Hambone and Hillie.
In recent years, Sidney has faded from the spotlight, and little is known about her personal or professional life. While her acting career has seemingly come to an end, the former child star does still make appearances in Little House on the Prairie-related shows.

Prior to her Little House on the Prairie days, the in-demand starlet had also held minor roles in TV shows like Gunsmoke, Emergency!, and Tenafly.
Gilbert was aged 10 when she landed the role of Laura, beating around 500 other young actresses to score the coveted part.
Gilbert has gone on to enjoy a decade-spanning TV career. Her credits include the fantasy series Touched by an Angel and medical drama Nip/Tuck, and she also voiced Batgirl in 90s cartoon show Batman: The Animated Series.
Returning to her Little House roots, Gilbert reprised her role as Laura in three made-for-TV spin-off movies. She later played her on-screen mother Caroline Ingalls in a touring musical adaptation of Little House on the Prairie between 2009 and 2010.

Melissa Sue Anderson played Mary Ingalls, the oldest sister of the family.

She won the role of Mary in 1974 when she was 11 years old and was nominated for the Emmy Award for Best Leading Actress in a Drama Series for the part in 1978.

The late Michael Landon played Charles Ingalls, the father of the family.
Landon was already a veteran actor by the time he joined Little House on the Prairie, having appeared in TV shows like Crossroads and The Restless Gun. He also had a number of movie credits, including 1957's I Was a Teenage Werewolf and 1958 crime drama High School Confidential.
However, his big break arguably came in 1959 when he landed a lead role in Western drama Bonanza, which was one of the world's first TV shows to be broadcast in colour.
When Little House on the Prairie ended, Landon went on to star in several movies, including the 1982 adventure flick Love Is Forever and the 1984 coming-of-age drama Sam’s Son.
However, his greatest hit after Little House wrapped was his lead role in fantasy show Highway to Heaven, which aired on NBC between 1984 and 1989. As well as acting in it, Landon was also a writer, producer, and director on the wildly popular series.
The multi-talented star also went on to direct and act in two made-for-TV movies, Where Pigeons Go to Die in 1990 and Us in 1991, also serving as a writer on the latter project.
Landon passed away in 1991 at the age of 54, having fought a lengthy battle with cancer. At the time of his death, he reportedly had a fortune of around $40 million (£36.2m) in today’s money.
