IT and telecommunication directors were the 10th best paid in the UK in 2015. People in these roles are responsible for all the elements that go into keeping a business connected. The profession, which has a huge skills gap, rewards those at the top with an average salary of £70,971 a year.

Next up is air traffic controllers in ninth place. The people in charge of keeping planes safe in the sky earned an average of £77,220 in 2015.

Experienced legal professionals such as attorneys, justice clerks, legal advisors and barristers’ clerks typically bring in £80,578 for their work, making them the eighth best paid workers in the UK in 2015.

Medical practitioners like your local GP, as well as those that work in hospitals, labs, clinics and healthcare centres, typically brought in £80,628 making the role the seventh best-paid in 2015.

Financial institution managers and directors that manage our money in banks, building societies and insurance companies typically demand salaries of £80,755 a year. The role was the sixth best paid in the UK in 2015.

A career working with planes or helicopters either in the sky on the ground can be lucrative. Aircraft pilots and flight engineers were the fourth highest paid roles in 2015 earning an average of £87,474.

Marketing and sales directors had the third highest paid role in 2015. They are tasked with improving the performance of a business and coming up with new ideas to get us to spend money, and typically earned £89,933.

The head honchos of companies aren’t short of a few bob. In 2015 chief executives and senior officials earned an average £122,967 a year making it the second highest paid role in the UK.

Brokers, the middle men and women that make deals happen, are raking it in. They earned the most of any worker in 2015 with an average salary of £128,231.
