The four-story mansion, which was built in 1928, sprawls over 8,200 square feet and boasts a total of nine bedrooms. It was last sold in 2014 for $5.3 million (£4.3m) and has an estimated rental value of $22,000 (£18k) a month.

The Obamas, who have decided to stay in Washington DC until Sasha finishes school, needn't feel too hard done by if these pictures are anything to go by. Nodding to the luxury of the White House, the elegant rooms in their new home are decorated to the highest specifications.

The perfect space for the former Commander-in-Chief to indulge his love of cooking, the kitchen wows with fine marble countertops, high-end cabinetry and solid hardwood floors, not to mention grand box-beam ceilings.

Upstairs, the home's nine ensuite bedrooms are spacious and feature leaded windows that let in plenty of light. Adding a cozy touch, some of the bedrooms have working open fireplaces to snuggle around.

A welcome change from the hustle and bustle of the White House, the well-appointed property is set in a quarter acre of grounds, which include perfectly-manicured gardens, a chillout terrace, twin garages and a gated courtyard.
Former British Prime Minister David Cameron
After swiftly clearing out the Downing Street apartment last June in readiness for new British Prime Minister Theresa May and her husband Philip, David Cameron and his family stayed in a swanky $20 million (£16m) townhouse in London's posh Holland Park, which is owned by their close friend Sir Alan Parker.

The Camerons crashed at the property last summer while their four-bedroom Edwardian terraced house in Notting Hill (pictured) was being renovated. The family now divide their time between the revamped $4.3 million (£3.5m) London home and a $1.6 million (£1.3m) cottage in the Cotswolds.
Former Australian Prime Minister Tony Abbott
The 28th Prime Minister of Australia was ousted in favor of Malcolm Turnball in September 2015, instantly losing the right to reside at the two swish PM's residences, The Lodge in Canberra and Sydney's Kirribilli House.

Luckily for him, Abbott never lived at the official government residences full-time, so didn't have a lot of furniture and so on to move. The Australian politician and his wife Maggie opted to remain at their modern family home in Forestville, a sleepy suburb of Sydney, and continue to reside there.
Former French President Nicolas Sarkozy
After leaving office in 2012, ex-French president Nicolas Sarkozy vacated the Elysée Palace and decamped to wife Carla Bruni's palatial apartment in the ultra-exclusive Villa Montmorency, the jewel of Paris' posh 16th arrondissement.

Villa Montmorency is France's most prestigious gated community and a magnet for the country's elite. The former president and his wife have a holiday home too: Bruni's lavish family villa in the south of France.
Former Australian Prime Minister Julia Gillard
The Australian Prime Minister from 2010 to 2013, Julia Gillard didn't downsize too drastically when her time in office was up. Gillard and her partner Chris Mathieson splurged $1.35 million (£1.1m) on a fabulous four-bedroom, four-bathroom villa in Adelaide.

The swanky villa comes complete with a stunning geometric pool, 12-person spa and outdoor kitchen. Boasting all the latest gadgetry, the villa also features top-end appliances, smart home automation and a state of the art security system.
Former US President George W. Bush
After George W. Bush handed over the keys of the White House to Barack Obama in January 2009, he made a beeline for his recently acquired home in Preston Hollows, an upscale neighborhood of Dallas.

The former US president and his wife Laura also own Prairie Chapel, a 1583-acre ranch near Crawford, Texas. Bush snapped up the ranch in 1999 and appointed renowned architect David Haymann to design the four-bedroom house. The ex president is seen here with German Chancellor Angela Merkel outside the house in 2007.
Former British Prime Minister Tony Blair
Tony Blair, his wife Cherie and their four children moved into a dead ringer for 10 Downing Street following the former Prime Minister's resignation in 2007. The Georgian townhouse in London's Connaught Square looks so like the prime ministerial residence that it was used as a replica in a BBC TV series.

The Blairs bought the townhouse in 2004 for $4.3 million (£3.5m) – it is now estimated to be worth in the region of $10.4 million (£8.5m). And this isn't the only property the family own. Between them, the Blairs have an impressive real estate portfolio of at least 10 houses and 27 apartments.
Former US President Bill Clinton
The ex US president, his wife Hillary and their daughter Chelsea relocated to a 19th-century house in Chappaqua, Upstate New York in 2001 following the inauguration of George W. Bush. The couple purchased the Dutch Colonial-style home in 1991 as a base for Hillary's New York senator bid.

The couple still live in their Chappaqua home. In September 2016 they handed over $1.16 million (£950k) for the three-bedroom house next door. The extra abode should provide plenty of extra space for Chelsea, her husband Marc Mezvinsky and their two children.
Former British Prime Minister John Major
Following Tony Blair's landslide victory in 1997, the outgoing British Prime Minister John Major and his wife Norma invested in a sizeable Georgian townhouse in south London's much sought-after Cleaver Square.

The cricket-mad former prime minister reportedly selected the Kennington townhouse thanks to its proximity to the famous Oval cricket stadium – Major is a devoted member of Surrey Cricket Club, which is based there.
Former US President George H.W. Bush
President George H.W. Bush and his wife Barbara had a home constructed in Texas after he departed the White House in 1993. The Bush patriarch bagged land in Houston on which to build the property back in 1985.

In addition to the house in Houston, Mr and Mrs Bush Senior own a huge compound in Kennebunkport, Maine (pictured), where they spend family vacations. The historic home and the land it sits on have been in the Bush family for over 100 years.
Former British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher
Following her forced resignation in November 1990, Margaret Thatcher and husband Denis bought a six-bedroom Georgian townhouse in Chester Square, the heart of London's Belgravia district. Current residents include Russian billionaire Roman Abramovich and celebrity chef Nigella Lawson.

The ex PM lived in the classy Chester Square home until her death in 2013. Exceedingly valuable, the property went on the market last year with an eye-watering asking price of $36.85 million (£30m).
Former US President Ronald Reagan
After Ronald Reagan handed over the reigns to George H.W. Bush in 1989, the former president and his wife Nancy headed back to California and their two homes in the state – a mansion in LA's select Bel Air neighborhood and a 688-acre ranch in Santa Barbara.

Before his mental health deteriorated, the ex-president flitted between Rancho del Cielo in Santa Barbara (pictured) and his glamorous home in LA, where he worked on his memoirs and the creation of the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library.
