The Duke of Buccleuch and Queensberry has been steadily selling off land from his various Scottish estates in recent years.
In 2020, for example, he sold 5,000 acres from his Langholm Moor estate to a local community group. The Langholm Initiative had the goal of creating a 10,000-acre nature reserve but didn't have enough cash for the full property at that time. However, after two more years of fundraising, the group met its goal in August 2022.
The Duke is now estimated to own just shy of 230,000 acres, with much of his property portfolio located across Scotland. This includes 61,000 acres at Bowhill House, which has belonged to his family for centuries.
