David proposed to Victoria with a 3-carat marquise cut diamond on a yellow gold band that cost $85,000 (£65k). Since then, Victoria has worn another 14 ‘engagement’ rings on her left hand. For her 30th birthday, David gave her a pink champagne diamond on a halo band that cost $1.1 million (£843.3k).

Reese Witherspoon and Jim Toth: $250,000 (£191.5k)
Celebrity agent Toth proposed to Reese in 2010 and her second engagement ring is a 4-carat $250,000 (£191.5k) ring that he chose for her. It’s an Ashoka cut diamond ring set on a diamond and platinum band, designed by jeweller William Goldberg.

Will Smith and Jada Pinkett: $250,000 (£191.5k)
The Fresh Prince actor, Will, proposed to Jada in November 1997, and the pair got married just months later. Will gave Jada a 12-carat $250,000 (£180,000) rock and the pair have been married ever since.
Katie Holmes and Tom Cruise: $275,000 (£210.6k)
Tom Cruise proposed to Katie Holmes in June 2005 in Paris. He gave her a Fred Leighton-designed oval-shaped diamond valued at about $275,000 (£210.6k). The Edwardian-style ring featured a 5.5 carat oval diamond with over six carats of smaller diamonds outlining the oval and on the split shank mounting. Tom asked Katie to marry him at the end of a candlelight dinner at Le Jules Verne restaurant on the second floor of the Eiffel Tower, where a six-course Experience Menu costs $320 (£200).

Machine Gun Kelly and Megan Fox: at least $300,00 (£229.7k)
When rapper Machine Gun Kelly proposed to Transformers star Megan Fox earlier this year, the unique engagement ring hit the headlines for all the wrong reasons: the pear-shaped emerald and diamond stones are set on two magnetic bands of thorns, which Kelly designed to hurt Fox if she removes the ring. Experts estimate the gothic bling is worth between $300,00 (£229.7k) and $400,000 (£306.2k).

Pippa Middleton and James Matthews: $326,000 (£250,000)
Banker James Matthews proposed to Kate's sister Pippa Middleton in the Lake District in July 2016 when they stopped to take their breath while out walking. When he presented her with the huge engagement ring, it must have taken her breath away again! The octagonal Art Deco-style ring features a central stone that’s upwards of three carats. Experts valued the ring at around $326,000 (£250,000).
Ariana Grande and Dalton Gomez: $350,000 (£268k)
Pop sensation Ariana Grande and luxury real estate agent Dalton Gomez got engaged in 2020 and tied the knot in an intimate ceremony the following year. Grande’s ring is a 5-carat diamond set beside a small pearl, which fans believe is from her late grandfather’s tie pin. Experts value the sentimental showstopper at around $350,000 (£268k).

Action hero Jason Statham and model Rosie got engaged in January 2016 when he spent $350,000 (£268k) on a 5-carat ring for his longtime girlfriend. The pair have since had two children, but are not yet married.

Lady Gaga and Taylor Kinney: $500,000 (£382.9k)
The kooky star got engaged to actor Taylor Kinney on Valentine's Day 2015 when he offered her an unusual heart-shaped diamond engagement ring. It’s thought to be 6 carats and stands on a micro-pave platinum band. The $500,000 (£382.9k) ring was engraved with "T ♡ S", using Gaga's birth name, Stefani Germanotta. Sadly, the pair split up in July 2016.

Kate Middleton and Prince William: $500,000 (£382.9k)
The pair took the world by storm when they announced their engagement in November 2010. William carried the ring in his rucksack and got down on one knee when they were on safari in Kenya. The ring was famously worn by his mother, Princess Diana. It consists of a 12-carat oval blue sapphire, cut into facets and surrounded by 14 solitaire diamonds. The ring’s setting is made from 18K white gold. It’s thought to be worth around $500,000 (£382.9k).
Justin Bieber and Hailey Baldwin: $500,000 (£382.9k)
Singer Justin Bieber proposed to supermodel Hailey Baldwin in the Bahamas in 2018. He went for a classic-style ring featuring an 18k yellow gold band with an oval diamond stone thought to be between 6-carats and 10-carats. The elegant ring is estimated to have set Bieber back around $500,000 (£382.9k).

Nicky Hilton and James Rothschild: at least $500,000 (£382.9k)
The banking heir gave the reality queen a ring of between 6-carats and 8-carats. It was square cut, possibly Royal Asscher cut with great clarity. It’s estimated to be worth between $500,000 (£382.9k) and $800,000 (£621.9k).

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle: at least $500,000 (£382.9k)
Prince Harry proposed to Meghan Markle over roast chicken at home. While the setting was low-key, the ring was anything but. The now-famous three-stone diamond engagement ring is made up of one diamond from Botswana and two others from Princess Diana's personal collection. It was designed by Harry and made by court jewellers Cleave and Company. It has an estimated value of over $50,000 (£38.3k) but, because of its fame, could sell for anywhere between $500,000 (£382.9k) and $1 million (£766.3k)
Paul McCartney and Nancy Shevell: $650,000 (£498k)
The former Beatle proposed after a meal of pumpkin ravioli at Shevell’s New York apartment in 2011. Jeweller Neil Lane helped Paul pick the right ring – ‘something truly exceptional’. McCartney chose a rare 5-plus carat diamond Art Deco ring from Lane’s archival collection. Set in platinum with a flawless round, central diamond, the ring has strips of black onyx along the sides and is worth $650,000 (£498k).

George Clooney and Amal Alamuddin: $750,000 (£574.7k)
George proposed in style in April 2014 with a gorgeous 7-carat emerald-cut solitaire diamond ring, set in platinum. The solitaire ring, which features side baguettes set in platinum, is worth $750,000 (£574.7k). George made pasta for dinner and asked Amal to open a drawer to get out a lighter to light candles. But instead, she found the ring and left Clooney down on one knee for 20 minutes before she could say "yes."

Kourtney Kardashian and Travis Barker: $1 million (£765.9m)
The rock star and the reality star got engaged in 2021, just months after going public with their relationship. Barker proposed to Kardashian on a beach surrounded by red roses and candles, and, of course, the ring was as incredible as the proposal. The eight-carat oval diamond, which experts claim is the highest quality VS2 grade, is set on a simple pave band and is estimated to have cost around $1 million (£765.9m).

Jennifer Aniston and Justin Theroux: $1 million (£765.9k)
Justin Theroux asked for Jennifer Aniston's hand with a stunning 10-carat emerald-cut diamond. The actor proposed to the Friends star at the Blue Hill restaurant in New York, where the tasting menu costs $108 (£83). The ring was worth approximately $1 million (£765.9k) and had some extra star power to it as Theroux called on her good friend Jennifer Meyer to help design it. Sadly, the pair announced their split in 2017.

Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt: $1 million (£765.9k)
The Mr and Mrs Smith stars got engaged at their home in 2012, with Brad giving Angelina an emerald-cut rock weighing in at about six carats with smaller, but still large, diamonds on either side. The ring, estimated at over $1 million (£765.9k) was designed by Brad and jeweller Robert Procop.

Jennifer Lopez has been engaged five times, but her most memorable engagement is arguably to Gigli co-star Ben Affleck. In 2002, Affleck popped the question with a 6.1-carat pink diamond worth $1.2 million (£918.4k). She reportedly returned it when they broke up in 2004, though the pair recently rekindled their romance after almost two decades apart.

Reddit co-founded Alexis Ohanian proposed to the tennis champ in 2016, with a ring valued at a cool $2 million (£1.5m). Boasting a 12-carat oval-cut diamond centre stone framed by two smaller diamonds, this beauty is nothing short of breath-taking.

Paris Hilton and Chris Zylka: $2 million (£1.5m)
Paris got engaged for the third time in 2018, this time to Leftovers actor Chris Zylka. Chris got down on one knee on the mountainside during a ski trip to Aspen. Experts estimate the 20-carat gem is worth $2 million (£1.5m). However, it wasn't meant to be and the couple seperated months later.

In 2009, the singer gave the tennis pro the unique ring – an 11-carat yellow diamond set in platinum with two other diamonds on either side. It’s worth $2.5 million (£1.9m). The notoriously private couple have been together for two decades and share three children.

The Greek shipping magnate proposed to Jacqueline Kennedy with what was then one of the most expensive engagement rings of all time in 1968. The massive, 40-carat marquise-cut diamond was named the Lesotho III diamond and is worth $2.6 million (£2m).

Future President Donald Trump proposed to Melania on the night of the Met Ball in 2004. He gave her a 12-carat diamond ring. The emerald-cut diamond sits between two smaller diamonds and was designed by London jeweller Graff. It's worth close to $3 million (£2.3m).

Jennifer Lopez and Marc Anthony: $4 million (£3.3m)
The $1.2 million (£918.4k) sparkly rock given to her by Ben Affleck isn’t the most expensive bling Jennifer Lopez has worn on her wedding finger. When her ex-husband Marc Anthony popped the question in 2004, he did so with an 8.5-carat blue diamond ring, reportedly worth a stunning $4 million (£3.3m).
Grace Kelly and Prince Rainier: $4.3 million (£3.3m)
When Prince Rainier III of Monaco proposed to Grace Kelly in 1955, he pulled out a 10.47-carat, emerald-cut diamond ring by Cartier worth $4.3 million (£3.3m). Rainier was in Philadelphia, staying at the Kelly family home, where he proposed. He was allegedly accompanied by a doctor who carried out fertility tests to ensure Grace could provide an heir.

Beyonce and Jay-Z: $5 million (£3.8m)
The musical power couple said "I do" in 2008 at a secret wedding. But her far-from-secret engagement ring has an overwhelming 18-carat emerald-cut flawless centre diamond. Jay-Z gave her a stone set on a split shank band with micro-pavé diamonds in platinum, costing around $5 million (£3.8m).
Katy Perry and Orlando Bloom: $5.3 million (£4m)
The Hollywood power couple got engaged on Valentine's Day 2019. Bloom proposed with a centuries-old antique ruby and diamond flower ring, which he reportedly purchased from Delphi Antiques in Dublin, Ireland for a hefty €4.8 million ($5.3m/£4m).

Kim Kardashian and Kanye West: at least $7 million (£5.3m)
The pair got engaged at AT&T Park in San Francisco on Kim’s birthday in October 2013, when the rapper proposed in front of their friends and family. Renting AT&T Field alone cost around $220,000 (£168.4k) at the time. As for the ring, it was a perfect, D flawless cushion-cut diamond from Lorraine Schwartz. According to Forevermark Diamond expert Adelaide Polk-Bauman, it could have set West back between $7 million (£5.3m) and $8 million (£6.1m).

James Packer broke Burton’s record with a whopping 35-carat, emerald-cut diamond that cost $10 million (£7.6m). Sadly, not even the most expensive engagement ring in Hollywood can help a couple live happily ever after. The wedding was called off after seven months.
