When Chris Rock started making good money on the comedy circuit, he decided to treat himself to a flashy car. However, it turned out to be a rather unwise decision.
Rock told Jet magazine in 1997: "It was a red Corvette and cost $45,000 (£37k). I only made $90,000 (£74,000) that year, hadn't paid taxes yet, and with getting the car insurance and everything, it sort of put me in the hole."
Venus Williams
Venus Williams won her first Grand Slam title at the tender age of 20. The victory was accompanied by a substantial cash prize of $543,000 (£425k), but the young tennis prodigy decided not to spend the money.
She told CNBC Make It: "I really didn’t spend any of it. I just didn’t want to become a statistic or one of those athletes who had it all and then, in the end, had nothing."

"I bought her a TV with a remote because she would always have to get up and go and change the channel. So with my first check, I bought her a TV", he told POPSUGAR in a 2022 interview.
