Massachusetts is one of few states to have reached the $15-an-hour minimum, but it's also one of the most expensive parts of the country – a living wage of $21.35 is needed for a single adult with no children.

Tipped employees earn $6.75 an hour, and employers must make up the difference if this wage plus tips doesn't add up to the full $15.

While state law had enshrined a five-year schedule for increasing the minimum wage, it ended in 2023 and any further changes must be made by law either through the legislature or a ballot measure. In 2024, Massachusetts' minimum rate will remain the same.
