Bruce Springsteen's net worth today

Born on 23 September 1949 in New Jersey, Bruce is the proud patriarch of the Springsteen family.
According to a good-natured roast from close friend Paul McCartney at the recent Ivor Awards: "He's known as the American working man, but he admits he’s never worked a day in his life."
However, the veteran singer-songwriter has built up an estimated net worth of $1.1 billion (£856m).
So let’s delve into how "The Boss" makes his megabucks...
Bruce Springsteen: the early days

Springsteen started his career by performing with various bands in his hometown of Freehold, New Jersey in the 60s and 70s.
His singing and songwriting skills caught the attention of talent scout John Hammond, and in 1972 Springsteen scored a life-changing recording deal with Columbia Records.
During this time, he formed his backing group, the E Street Band, which consists of his New Jersey-based friends and musicians. Members over the years include guitarists Steven Van Zandt, Nils Lofgren, and Patti Scialfa; keyboardists Danny Federici and Roy Bittan; bassist Garry Tallent; drummer Max Weinberg; and saxophonist Clarence Clemons.
In 1973, Springsteen released his critically acclaimed debut studio album Greetings from Asbury Park, N.J., featuring songs including Blinded By The Light and Growin’ Up.
Bruce Springsteen: a star is born

While Springsteen's second album, The Wild, the Innocent & the E Street Shuffle, was a moderate success, it was the release of his third album, 1975's Born to Run, that made him a sensation.
The record peaked at number three on the Billboard 200 in the US. That same year, Springsteen appeared on the covers of Newsweek and Time and became known as the face of the heartland rock genre.
However, Springsteen's most successful record is 1984's Born in the U.S.A. One of the best-selling albums of all time, it's shifted over 30 million copies worldwide to date.
Bruce Springsteen: music icon

Springsteen has released an incredible 21 studio albums, many of which feature his trusted E Street Band. His latest, Only the Strong Survive, dropped in 2022.
With smash hits such as Dancing in the Dark, Born In The U.S.A., The River, and Glory Days all under his belt, Bruce is one of the best-selling artists of all time, having sold over 135 million records globally.
Throughout his decade-spanning career, he’s won 20 Grammys, two Golden Globes, an Oscar, and a Tony. His ballad Streets Of Philadelphia, which featured in the 1993 movie Philadelphia, won Best Original Song at the 66th Academy Awards in 1994 (pictured).
Bruce Springsteen: touring triumphs

Springsteen also rakes it in from tours. Forbes reported in 2014 that he was grossing $4 million per night touring with the E Street Band, the equivalent of $5.3 million (£4.1m) in 2024 money.
That year alone, he banked a stunning $81 million ($108m/£84m today), largely due to live performances.
The legendary rocker kicked off his Springsteen & E Street Band international tour last year but postponed many 2023 and 2024 dates due to peptic ulcer disease. He resumed the tour earlier this year but has once again had to delay several European dates due to vocal issues.
Bruce Springsteen: multi-million-dollar payday

The legendary star scored his biggest music payday yet when he sold his song catalogue to Sony Music Entertainment for $500 million in 2021, or $580 million (£450m) in today's money. The mammoth deal covers the entirety of his work as a recording artist and songwriter.
Springsteen, who’s worked with Sony-owned Columbia Records throughout his entire career, said of the sale: "I am one artist who can truly say that when I signed with Columbia Records in 1972, I came to the right place. During the last 50 years, the men and women of Sony Music have treated me with the greatest respect as an artist and as a person. I’m thrilled that my legacy will continue to be cared for by the company and people I know and trust."
Bruce Springsteen: best-selling book

Springsteen published his gripping autobiography, Born To Run (pictured), in 2016.
The memoir was a New York Times Best Seller in the US and also topped book charts across the UK, Ireland, Germany, Denmark, and Sweden.
On the book's publication day, more than 2,000 devoted fans showed up at the Barnes & Noble bookstore in Springsteen's hometown of Freehold, New Jersey to purchase the coveted tome.
Bruce Springsteen: Broadway star

The music icon launched his own Broadway show, Springsteen on Broadway, in October 2017. The show initially ran until December 2018 but was so popular that it scored a second, 31-show run in summer 2021.
The stage show (pictured) featured Springsteen singing, performing, and reading excerpts from his Born To Run autobiography.
In 2018, Springsteen landed a Tony award for Springsteen on Broadway.
As he’s also won an Oscar and Grammys in the past, it means he’s just an Emmy award away from scoring the coveted "EGOT" title, which is the achievement of winning all four of the major entertainment awards (Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, and Tony).
Bruce Springsteen: directing debut

The multi-talented Bruce co-directed the concert film Western Stars alongside Thom Zimny.
The movie, which premiered at the Toronto Film Festival in 2019, features Springsteen and the E Street Band performing to a live audience in support of his Western Stars album.

Bruce Springsteen: Blinded by the Light

Blinded by the Light, a coming-of-age comedy movie inspired by the works of Bruce Springsteen was released in 2019. The heartwarming British flick follows a Muslim teen whose life is changed forever when he discovers the music of Bruce Springsteen.
While it's fair to assume that Springsteen received a hefty payday for the rights to his music to be used in the movie, star Viveik Kalra revealed to Entertainment Weekly that he'd actually given away his music rights for "next to no money".

Now we've explored how Springsteen makes his money, let's find out how the star likes to spend it...
Bruce Springsteen: property portfolio

As you’d expect, Bruce owns a seriously impressive property portfolio. His primary residence is a sprawling horse farm in Colts Neck, New Jersey, located close to his beloved hometown of Freehold. Springsteen is pictured here at the property with Barack Obama in 2021.
Back in 1999, he and his wife Patti snapped up a 4.5-acre compound in Beverly Hills, LA for $13.75 million. The land featured a 10,000-square-foot (929-square-metre) mansion and a 7,500-square-foot (697-square-metre) guest house. In 2015, it was reported that the couple were attempting to sell the compound for up to $70 million, or $93 million (£72m) in today's money.
Additionally, Bruce and Patti own a home in an equestrian community in Wellington, Florida where they count Michael Bloomberg and Bill Gates among their famous neighbours.
Bruce Springsteen: classic car collection

Springsteen revealed to GQ in 2020 that he has a passion for cars, telling the magazine: "I have a garage full of cars that I’ve collected over the years. They’re not collector’s pieces; they’re what I call drivers. A small collection of older American vehicles that I get in and drive once in a while."
Over the years, his enviable collection of classic cars has included a 1957 Chevrolet Bel Air, a 1960 Chevrolet Corvette C1 convertible, a 1963 Chevrolet Impala convertible, a 1963 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray, a 1969 Ford XL convertible, a 1970 Ford F100 pick-up truck, and a 1982 Chevrolet Z28 Camaro.

Moving onto the matriarch of the Springsteen dynasty, Patti Scialfa (pictured here with Bruce) was born in New Jersey on 29 July 1953.
She married Springsteen in 1991, and while she shares his mammoth fortune, she's also independently worth a sizeable $50 million (£39m).
So how does the star make her money?
Patti Scialfa: E Street Band

Patti graduated from New York University’s prestigious Tisch School of the Arts with a degree in music but struggled to find work as a musician.
As a result, she worked as a waitress and a busker before meeting Springsteen in 1984 and joining the E Street Band (pictured).
She began performing with Springsteen and the band shortly before the Born In The U.S.A. tour began and has remained a member ever since.
Patti Scialfa: rock'n'roll collabs

Patti has also collaborated with some of the biggest names in music.
She provided vocals on the Rolling Stones' 1986 album Dirty Work and also worked with Stones guitarist Keith Richards on his 1988 debut solo album Talk is Cheap.
Patti Scialfa: solo star

Scialfa launched her solo career with the release of her debut album Rumble Doll in 1993. This was followed by 2004’s 23rd Street Lullaby and 2007’s Play It As It Lays.
Her critically acclaimed solo music is described as a mix of country, folk, and rock, with husband Bruce appearing on some of her records.

The talented athlete was selected to join Team USA at the 2020 Summer Olympics, though the event was postponed until 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
She went on to win a silver medal in the team jumping competition and has reportedly picked up more than $1 million (£778k) in prize money over the years. Despite her success at the last Olympics, Jessica will not represent the United States this year in Paris.
Jessica Springsteen: jetsetter

Jessica has been competing in equestrian events across Europe since she was 19 years old.
In 2019, she revealed to The Chronicle of the Horse magazine that she was living in Belgium, where she kept her horses at the prestigious Stephex Stables in Meise.
It’s unknown if the jetsetting sports star still resides there. In the same interview, she revealed: "I'm lucky to compete in some incredible cities, and it's an amazing way to travel the world. I try to make time to do some sightseeing while I’m away."
Samuel Springsteen

Born on 5 January 1994, Samuel Springsteen (pictured with his mother) is the youngest child of Bruce and Patti.
Like his siblings, his net worth is also unknown.
Samuel Springsteen: firefighter

New Jersey resident Sam has shunned the spotlight for a far more relatable career path, and was officially sworn in as a firefighter by the Mayor of Jersey City in 2020.
In 2022, the civil servant welcomed his first child, a daughter named Lily Harper Springsteen, with his partner. He's pictured here meeting Barack Obama in 2008.
