According to Elon Musk, a staggering 455,000 motorists are on the waiting list, meaning they may have to hold on for two years or more until they get their electric car. Tesla's Model 3 isn't the only super-desirable thing people are prepared to wait ages for. From next season's 'It' fashion items to the world's most wanted season tickets, we reveal 25 products and experiences with ridiculously long waiting lists.
Linjer Tulip bag: several months
Christened next season's 'It' bag by Vogue, Linjer's must-have Tulip bag is handcrafted from sustainable Italian leather and comes with a relatively affordable price point of $375 (£290). An impressive 2,000 people have been waiting months to get their hands on the bag, which is due to ship from October.
Glow Recipe Watermelon Sleeping Mask: several months
Colossal waiting lists have become the norm for cult beauty products like Glow Recipe's Watermelon Sleeping Mask. This in-demand product from Korea retails at $45 (£35) and has a waiting list of over 5,000 people, some of which will have to wait months before they get their hydrating face mask concoction.
Mermaid Salon make-up brushes: several months
These cute $20 (£15) mermaid motif make-up brushes have been flying off the shelves since they were launched earlier this year by Australia's Mermaid Salon. The Brisbane-based salon has been frantically trying to keep up with demand, but some people on the waiting list may have to hold on for a quite a few months.
The Ordinary Foundation: several months
Hyped-up to the max, The Ordinary Foundation launched in April with a waiting list of 25,000 people desperate to grab a bottle, and the cruelty-free foundation, which is packed with anti-ageing ingredients and costs just $7.60 (£5.90), is still notoriously hard to obtain.
Everlane Day Heel: several months
Everlane's easy to wear pumps have been dubbed 'the world's most comfortable heels' and more than 28,000 people are waiting to snap up a pair. Stock is expected to ship from November 19, but customers might have to wait even longer for their $145 (£112) ballet-inspired heels, depending on the size and shade they pre-order.
Frank Body Shimmer Scrub: several months
Multicoloured unicorn beauty products are all the rage right now, and this exfoliating body scrub with shimmer from Australia is one of the most sought-after. Currently sold out, the product has a waiting list of 50,000 people and counting.
Saint Laurent rhinestone boots : six months
A big hit with fashion editors and bloggers at Paris Fashion Week in February, these rhinestone boots by Saint Laurent were worn by Rihanna in March. Needless to say, thousands of customers have been waiting months to bag a pair of the autumn/winter 2017/18 'It' boots, which hit the stores in late August.
A table at The Man Behind The Curtain restaurant: up to one year
This Michelin-starred restaurant in Leeds, England boasts the longest restaurant waiting list in Europe. Headed by chef of the moment Michael O'Hare, the restaurant is noted for its innovative, out of this world dishes. No wonder diners are happy to wait up to a year for a table.
A booking for South Africa's Otter Trail: one year
Hikers who are planning to trek South Africa's stunning coastal Otter Trail need to be patient as well as adventurous. The five-day journey across the Tsitsikamma National Park, which costs just $85 (£26k), has a year-long waiting list.
Aston Martin DB11: one year
Buyers are used to waiting for Aston Martin cars. The DBS once had an almost three-year waiting list. Likewise, this year's most wanted model, the gorgeous DB11, which starts from $188,000 (£145k), has a waiting list that stretches well into next year.
Ferrari 812 Superfast car: up to two years
Ferrari launched its fastest, most powerful road-going model ever earlier this year and as you can imagine, the waiting list for the super-speedy car is lengthy – some customers will have to wait up to two years to receive delivery of their 812 Superfast, which costs from $315,000 (£245k).
Gulfstream G650 jet: up to three years
Like the most desirable supercars, the most prestigious private jets are almost impossible to buy without a long wait. For instance, buyers have been known to wait up to three years for delivery of the $66.6 million (£51.5m) Gulfstream G650 plane.
An appointment with tattoo artist Rob Admiraal: three years
Appointments with the world's top tattoo artists tend to be booked out for months in advance, and Amsterdam-based ink master Rob Admiraal is so popular, fans will happily wait three years to get a session with him.
Bugatti Chiron car: three+ years
The exquisite Bugatti Chiron is priced at a cool $3.3 million (£2.6m) and buyers can end up waiting for more than three years to get their toy. In fact, this spectacular supercar boasts the longest waiting time for any vehicle.
Rolex Cosmograph Daytona watch: up to five years
This classic timepiece by Rolex has a waiting list of up to five years. The watch, which retails from around $10,000 (£7.7k), is a favourite of serious Rolex collectors, and the stainless steel version rather than fancier gold or platinum, is the most coveted.
Hermès Birkin bag: up to six years
Famed for its lengthy waiting list, the highly desirable Hermès Birkin bag starts from around $12,000 (£9k) but the ultra-luxe croc and bejewelled finishes can command price tags of up to $300,000 (£232k). Unless you're a celebrity or fashionista with exceedingly good connections, the wait can last up to six years.
Sine Qua Non wine subscription list: six years
The world-renowned Sine Qua Non winery in California produces some of America's finest syrahs, roussannes and sweet sémillons, and connoisseurs of the grape wait an average of six years to get on its fabled wine subscription list. The average price per bottle? A hefty $8,000 (£6.2k).
Pappy Van Winkle bourbon: up to 10 years
Staying with booze, Pappy Van Winkle reserve bourbon has a similar cult following. Only 7,000 cases of the exclusive American whiskey are produced each year and the wait to get hold of a bottle, which retails from $80 (£62), can be anything up to 10 years.
A table at the Damon Baehrel restaurant: 10 years
Damon Baehrel in Earlton, New York is the most exclusive restaurant in America, if not the world. Diners who place a booking today will have to wait until at least 2027 for a chance to sample the eatery's legendary five-hour organic and foraged tasting menu.
Club 33 membership: 14+ years
Queuing for rides at Disneyland is time-consuming enough, but imagine having to wait more than 14 years to join the theme park's on-site private member's club? The only place in Disneyland that serves alcohol, Club 33 has a 14-year waiting list and members pay up to $100,000 (£77k) to join.
Liverpool FC season ticket: 20+ years
Liverpool FC has the longest season ticket waiting list of any club in the English Premier League. Fans have to hold on for more than 20 years to secure a season ticket and the list has become so long, the football club recently closed it to help deal with the backlog.
Melbourne Cricket Club membership: 25 years
A full membership to Melbourne Cricket Club, which costs $532 (£411) a year, is every Aussie sport lover's dream. By 2012, the wait peaked at an eye-opening 68 years but has gone down to 25 years after the club introduced a new membership category in 2015.
Sesuit Harbor mooring: 30 years
Moorings in the world's most prestigious marinas are few and far between and the waiting lists tend to be massive. Take Sesuit Harbor for example in Cape Cod on the US Atlantic coast. Yacht owners who sign up to the waiting list today will have to hold on for 30 years to secure a permanent mooring.
Green Bay Packers season ticket: 30+ years
Wisconsin's Green Bay Packers has the longest season ticket waiting list in the NFL and the longest for any sports team on the planet. Given the average wait is at least 30 years, it's customary for fans to add their children's names to the list at birth.
Camden allotment: 40 years
Green-fingered residents of Camden in London have to wait an astonishing 40 years if they want to secure one of the borough's 200 allotments, which cost just $353 (£272) a year to rent. Over 1,000 people are waiting to lease one of the patches of green, which change hands very infrequently.
