From hands and thumbs to legs and bums, read on to discover the surprising body parts that celebrities have insured for jaw-dropping amounts of money.

Bette Davis’ waist – $630,000 (£491k)

Our list begins with Bette Davis' waist, which the actress insured for $28,000 in the 1940s. While the figure is some way off the million mark, it was a small fortune back in Davis' heyday, and is approximately $630,000 (£491k) in today's money.
Davis insured her tiny waist with Lloyd's of London when she was at the height of her fame, fearing that her career would suffer if she gained weight. Davis would have received hefty compensation if she were ever rejected for a role because of her size.
Miley Cyrus's tongue – $1.4 million (£1.1m)

Singer Miley Cyrus insured her tongue for $1 million following her 2013 VMAs performance, or around $1.4 million (£1.1m) in 2024 money.
Cyrus began sticking out her tongue in photos to fight her insecurities in front of the paparazzi and has since developed a strong attachment to it. She said: “I didn’t know what to do with my face, so I stuck my tongue out, and it became a rebellious, punk rock thing.”
Troy Polamalu's hair – $1.5 million (£1.2m)

NFL star Troy Polamalu secured the Guinness World Record for the highest-valued head of hair in 2010 after insuring his luscious locks for $1 million, the equivalent of $1.5 million (£1.2m) in 2024 money. Polamalu, who became a spokesperson for Head & Shoulders in 2010, had not cut his hair since 2000 and it even had its own Facebook group so that fans could show their appreciation.
Polamalu then cut off four of his impressive curls in 2013 to raise money for the Veterans of Foreign Wars Foundation.
Rihanna’s legs – $1.5 million (£1.2m)

Rhianna reportedly insured her legs for a cool $1 million back in 2007, the equivalent of $1.5 million (£1.2m) in today's money.
She apparently made the decision after winning Gillette’s Venus Breeze Celebrity Legs of a Goddess award in 2007, ensuring she'd be covered if they ever became less "goddess-like".
Keith Richards' hands – $1.6 million (£1.3m)

Rolling Stones guitarist Keith Richards insured his hands for $1.6 million (£1.3m). The rockstar took out the policy with Lloyd's of London, though it's unclear when.
Some sources claim the policy was for both hands, while others suggest it was only for the middle finger on his left hand, which is apparently crucial to playing particular chord patterns.
Jamie Lee Curtis' legs – $2 million (£1.6m)

When actress Jamie Lee Curtis became the face of L'eggs in 1996, the brand reportedly insured her legs for $1 million – that's an impressive $2 million (£1.6m) in today's money.
The Scream Queen actress has certainly put her legs to good use and reprised her most famous role as Laurie Strode in recent Halloween sequels, outrunning terrifying antagonist Michael Myers.
Heidi Klum’s legs – $3.3 million (£2.6m)

In 2004, supermodel Heidi Klum had her legs insured by a client for $2 million, or approximately $3.3 million (£2.6m) in today's money.
According to Vogue, Klum had her legs examined on a trip to London, and it was concluded that her right leg was worth more than her left, which bears a scar from when she fell on a glass.
Kylie Minogue's bum – $5 million (£3.9m)

Australian singer Kylie Minogue has reportedly insured her bum for the staggering sum of $5 million (£3.9m).
When asked why she felt the need to take out the insurance policy, Kylie’s response was: "You never know what the future holds. It could become a pear.”

Celebrity chef Gordon Ramsay has gone to extraordinary lengths to protect his most valuable asset – his taste buds.
Ramsay reportedly took out an insurance policy worth $10 million (£7.8m) with Lloyd's of London, safeguarding his tongue against disease, injury, and the effects of ageing.
Daniel Craig's whole body – $14 million (£10.9m)

If you thought getting individual body parts insured was strange, then Daniel Craig's whole-body policy may surprise you. When filming Quantum of Solace in 2008, Craig performed many of his own stunts and decided to insure himself against potential injury.
He took out a $9.5 million policy, equivalent to $14 million (£10.9m) in today's money. Considering the actor had surgery on his ankle after injuring himself during the filming of No Time to Die, his insurance policy was clearly a good move.
America Ferrera’s smile – $16 million (£12.5m)

America Ferrera starred as the eponymous Betty Suarez in ABC's Ugly Betty from 2006 to 2010. As part of a promotion for the US Charity Smiles for Success, which provides dental care for women looking to join the workforce for the first time, ABC took out a $10 million insurance policy for Ferrera's brace-covered grin, the equivalent of around $16 million (£12.5m) in 2024 money.
The policy expired in January 2008 but protected Ferrera's teeth and gums in the event of injury.
Fernando Alonso’s thumbs – $19 million (£14.8m)

At the height of his racing career in 2010, Formula 1 racer Fernando Alonso reportedly insured his thumbs for $13.3 million with Santander. That works out at around $19 million (£14.8m) in today's money.
According to Santander, his thumbs are not only essential for driving a Formula 1 car, but they also "represent a sign of victory".
Bruce Springsteen's voice – $22 million (£17.2m)

Lots of people enjoy listening to Bruce Springsteen’s gravelly vocal chords, but it probably never occurred to them that they were valued so highly.
Back in the 1980s, the singer-songwriter reportedly insured his distinctive singing voice for a whopping $6 million. That roughly translates to a whopping $22 million (£17.2m) in 2024 money.

Kylie isn't the only celebrity who's insured her rear end. Following the advice of her then-husband Kayne West, Kim Kardashian reportedly insured her bum for $21 million in 2014, a hefty $28 million (£21.8m) in today's money.
In the same year, reports emerged claiming the reality star spent $5,000 a day ($6.6k/£5.2k in 2024) to hire a tailor to ensure her clothes fit her posterior perfectly.

Irish-American dancer Michael Flatley reportedly insured his dancing feet for somewhere in the region of $50 million (£39m).
According to Flatley, years of Irish dancing have "wrecked his body" and taking out insurance was a practical solution.
Taylor Swift's legs – $53 million (£41.3m)

Taylor Swift reportedly insured her legs for $40 million before going on her 2015 tour in case she sustained an injury that would prevent her from performing. In today's money, that's around $53 million (£41.3m).
Though the superstar has not openly confirmed the rumour, she did post a (since deleted) Instagram photo of a scratch that her cat Meredith left on her leg. The caption read: “Great work, Meredith. I was just trying to love you, and now you owe me 40 million dollars.”
Cristiano Ronaldo's legs – $121 million (£94.4m)

Footballer Cristiano Ronaldo is also the proud owner of multimillion-dollar legs. Ronaldo insured his legs for $90 million in 2013, which roughly translates to $121 million (£94.4m) in 2024, protecting his successful sports career from potential injury.
Now 39 years old, the athlete is still going strong and played for home nation Portugal at the Euro 2024 tournament.
David Beckham’s legs – $304 million (£237m)

Mariah Carey's vocal chords aren't the only body part she's insured. Sitting, or rather standing, at the top of our list are Carey's legs, which the singer has protected for an incredible $1 billion (£780m).
The diva reportedly took out the policy after fronting Gillette's Legs Of A Goddess campaign in 2006.
