Mobile loyalty schemes and rewards: Tesco, O2, Vodafone, BT, Sky, EE and more

Updated on 12 March 2020

Many mobile phone providers offer rewards exclusively to its customers. We look at what you can expect from popular providers, including Tesco Mobile, O2, Vodafone and Sky Mobile.

Rewards for loyal customers

It always feels good to be rewarded for your loyalty, particularly if you’re paying a lot for a lengthy mobile phone contract.

We’ve rounded up all the perks from UK mobile phone providers and any loyalty schemes on offer.

The UK's best and worst mobile phone providers

Tesco Mobile rewards

There are some perks for families from Tesco Mobile, even if it doesn't officially offer a rewards scheme as such.

With ‘Family Perks’, everyone in the family can get a free reward every month, which can be changed whenever you want although you need a pay monthly/SIM-only account.

You can choose from up to:

  • 1GB of data;
  • £2 off your bill;
  • £2.25 off Tesco Mobile Protect (at the start of the contract only);
  • 200 Tesco Clubcard points;
  • 500 minutes for any network.

To get Family Perks, you need two or more pay monthly contracts on your account, which also includes pay monthly 4G tablets.

If you’re already a customer with Tesco Mobile, you need to add at least one more contract to your account online or via the app, but there is a limit of five contracts.

Double the value of your Clubcard points

Not only can you collect one Clubcard point for every £1 spent on your Tesco Mobile bill, you can also double their value, so you get extra money off your phone bill or a new device.

The table below shows how much you can save.

If you regularly shop at Tesco, check out how you can boost your Clubcard points.

You need to log into your account online or on the app, search for Tesco Mobile, enter the number of vouchers you want to double up and follow the instructions.

You’ll then get two emails – one should have the Clubcard Partner voucher code that you’ll need to enter in ‘My Account.’

Sky VIP rewards

Sky has a loyalty programme called Sky VIP, which all customers can join for free via the MySky app.

The scheme gives loyal customers access to thousands of rewards and prizes, which vary depending on how long you've been a Sky customer.

Some of the rewards for mobile customers include:

  • Free 5G for all VIP members with access to a superfast mobile network if they are in a 5G area and have a 5G enabled phone;
  • 1GB of free data;
  • 3GB of free data

At the time of writing, VIP members can try and win one of over 70,000 experiences, including holidays and days out.

How to cut the cost of your Sky TV, broadband and phone bills

Sky Piggybank

Sky Mobile lets you roll over any unused data for up to three years and there’s no limit on how much you can save.

After the end of each month, any data left in your ‘Sky Piggybank’ is rolled over – you can either use this or change your plan to save money.

Alternatively, you can ‘cash in’ any unused data for rewards, including accessories, money off a new phone or even share data with up to seven family or friends on the same account.

To benefit from this perk, you need to access Sky Piggybank via your account or the app. You need to wait until after your first bill period and have at least 1GB saved in your Sky Piggybank.

According to Sky, the rewards change monthly and depend on how much data you have saved.

To claim your reward, you need to check your balance in your account, choose what you want in the shop and select how much data you want to cash in.

BT Mobile rewards

BT Mobile does not have a loyalty scheme although there are some perks you can take advantage of.

You can get BT Sport for free if you have a phone plan with 6GB or more, or a SIM plan offering at least 10GB.

Unfortunately, you can only watch BT Sport on your mobile and not on your TV – unless you have BT Sport on BT TV, Sky TV or with broadband.

To get this offer, click ‘Get BT Sport on mobile’ on this page and fill in all the necessary information.

BT says most orders will be processed within one working day, so you won’t have to wait long to watch the latest football games.

Cheap family SIMs

While this perk might not be for everyone, it may be handy if you want to keep costs low for the whole family.

BT offers a bundle with three SIMs (1GB data each) for as little as £23 a month, which is around £7.70 a month per person – and you get a 30-day money back guarantee.

Of course, everyone will need to agree to a 12-month contract and the data and minutes on offer.

If you’re going abroad, you can take advantage of Roam Like Home, which lets you use your phone in 47 destinations without paying any extra roaming charges.

O2 Priority rewards

O2 Priority is one of the best-known loyalty schemes, which you need to sign up for and is available on your phone, tablet, laptop or desktop.

It’s free to join and offers many rewards, including access to priority tickets to popular shows up to 48 hours before general sale, early access to some TV shows, special discounts and even some freebies.

You can also get perks at some O2 venues, including fast-track entry or a free pie and pint by flashing your phone at an O2 Angel.

You can use the app to access O2 Priority whenever you want, which is useful as many offers are time-limited or only available in certain locations.

To view and claim any rewards, you need to sign in either on the app or online.

O2 Rewards

O2 Rewards is another benefit you get with the mobile phone provider, which rewards Pay As You Go (PAYG) customers.

Every three months, O2 adds up all your top-ups and gives 5% back after three months, which then rises to 10%.

So, if you top up £50 over three months, you’ll get £2.50 (this will rise to £5 after six months). You can earn a maximum of £150 a quarter – or £600 a year.

You can claim the cashback as extra credit or save it to get money off shows, a new phone or high street vouchers. Of course, to get the maximum amount of cashback, you would need to spend an extortionate amount, so don’t expect a huge amount of cashback from O2.

Make sure you claim or save rewards for each quarter or you’ll lose them.

To join O2 Rewards, text REWARD to 50202 or call 313 for free from your mobile. You will get a text at the start of every quarter to let you know how much you’ve earned over the previous three months, and how to claim your reward.

If you can’t wait that long for an update, text BALANCE to 50202 or call 313 – or you can check your account online.

For full details on how to claim, check out this link.

O2 Extras

If you want a new phone or tablet and are considering a SIM-only contract, you can get a freebie for six months with O2.

This offer is only valid for specific phones, tablets and SIM-only contracts, so it’s best to check whether your desired device is available under this deal before signing up.

You can choose from a range of free perks for six months, including access to:

  • Amazon Music Unlimited;
  • Amazon Prime Video;
  • Audible;
  • Cafeyn (unlimited access to hundreds of magazines);
  • MelodyVR (shows and festivals are shown via virtual reality);
  • Mediation app Calm;
  • International calls from 1p per minute.

EE rewards

Unfortunately, EE doesn’t have a specific loyalty programme, but you can still get lots of rewards with the mobile phone provider.

You can get a free data boost for either your data, texts or messages when you buy a PAYG 30-day pack every month that costs at least £8.

After three months, you’ll get 500MB added to your allowance – or extra texts or minutes. You’ll continue to get free boosts every three months.

You can choose your free boost by texting 150 with either BOOST DATA, BOOST MINS or BOOST TEXTS. You can log into My EE online or download the app, both of which can be used to track your free boosts.

The full T&Cs are available here with everything else you need to know.

Free Apple Music or BT Sport

You can get a free six-month subscription for Apple Music if you’re a pay monthly customer or have a tablet or data SIM plan.

EE will even cover the data you use on Apple Music, but you should double-check before using any data abroad to avoid any unexpected charges.

All you have to do is text MUSIC to 150 to snap up this offer and reply ‘yes’ to the follow-up message – then you’ll find out how to activate your subscription. You can also add this offer via your online account or on the app.

Make sure you cancel the subscription if you no longer want it as it’ll set you back £10 a month after the free period ends.

If you’re more into sports than music, you can opt for three months of BT Sport for free.

You’ll be able to watch UEFA Champions League, Europa League or Premier League matches, as well as boxing, cricket and American sports.

Text SPORT to 150. Again, you have to reply ‘yes’ to the follow-up message to find out how to activate your subscription – or access your account online or via the app to sign up.

You’ll need to cancel before the three month period ends to avoid getting charged.

EE customers also get the chance to snap up tickets for every England football game at Wembley before they go on sale to everyone else.

Vodafone VeryMe rewards

Vodafone’s free loyalty programme VeryMe Rewards offers weekly treats and giveaways from the likes of ASOS, Greggs and Costa Coffee, as well as a permanent two for £7 deal on Vue tickets.

You may also be able to gain early access to popular shows or get a free subscription.

Vodafone says these rewards are personalised to your interests, but this depends on how much you use the app. So, if you don’t use the app often, you may not end up with the most relevant offers.

Both pay monthly and PAYG mobile customers can access VeryMe Rewards – if they top up at least £10 every six weeks.

You need to download the My Vodafone app via the Apple Store or Google Play and sign up to gain access to VeryMe Rewards. You can’t sign up online.

Also, if you’re new to Vodafone, it may take a few days to gain access to this scheme – so don’t expect to get freebies and discounts straight away.

Discounted pass: Amazon Prime, Spotify, NOW TV or Sky Sport

With some Vodafone contracts, you can get an 18-month subscription to either Amazon Prime Video, Spotify, NOW TV or Sky Sports for an extra £6.

Depending on which one you go for, you could save a bundle – or not much at all.

Three rewards

Three recently scrapped its Wuntu rewards app, which offered freebies and offers to its loyal customers.

“We’re looking for new and improved ways of rewarding our customers,” a spokesperson for Three said.

There’s no indication on what will replace the app but there are still other benefits you can enjoy.

Go Binge

If you like to binge-watch Netflix or listen to music for hours on end, Go Binge could save you a lot of money.

Go Binge offers unlimited use of Netflix, TV Player, Snapchat, Soundcloud, Deezer and Apple Music at no extra cost.

The catch is that you need a phone or SIM plan with 12GB or more. You also need to wary about adverts embedded in these apps as data from these ads could eat into your normal allowance.

If you’re on an eligible plan, you have to do nothing to activate this feature although you need to make sure you have data in your allowance.

Not sure if you have Go Binge? Simply download the Three app, go to your ‘Plan Section’ and scroll to ‘Active Add-ons’ to find out.

It’s advisable to check usage restrictions if you’re going abroad although Go Roam will allow you to use your call, texts and data in 71 destinations around the world at no extra cost.

On top of that, you can claim an easyJet upgrade if you’re a Pay Monthly or Business customer. To check the fine print for Go Roam, check out this handy page.

VOXI DROP rewards

VOXI is owned by Vodafone and is ideal for those who need a lot of data on the go.

With VOXI, you can get unlimited use of WhatsApp, Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, Snapchat, Pinterest and Facebook Messenger.

VOXI Drop offers exclusive freebies and offers every month, which has included a free Time Out More card and 20% off ASOS.

You can redeem your latest ‘drop’ by logging into your account and clicking on VOXI Drop to reveal the latest reward.

Unfortunately, these rewards can happen anytime, so it’s a good idea to follow VOXI on either Instagram or Twitter so you don’t miss out.

Smarty rewards

Smarty, which is owned by Three, claims to offer ‘all the data you need for less.’ For example, you can get 30GB for £10 per month.

You can get money back for any data that you don’t use at a rate of £1.25 per gigabyte (GB), so if you have 3GB of unused data, you’ll get £3.75 off your bill next month.

You should note it costs £5 for any data discount plans, so there’s a limit on how much money you can get back if you use one of these plans.

For example, if you get a 4GB data discount plan for £10 a month, you can only get up to £5 every month depending on how much data is leftover.
