Top winter bargains

Rachel Wait takes a look at some fantastic deals to get you through the winter months.

After a brief respite, with some marginally milder weather, the big freeze is set to return - if it hasn't hit you already. So if you’re looking for ways to stay warm, make sure you check out these bargains.

Footwear

Personally, I don’t know how I ever survived without my Ugg boots. Yes, I know, that’s a dramatic statement and many people can’t stand the sight of Uggs, but personally, I love ‘em. So if you’re after a bargain, take a look at Cloggs.co.uk, where you can pick up a pair of cardy boots for £99, down from £125, and these tall boots for £159.99, reduced from £190.

Remember that Ugg boots are expensive, so if you see a deal that looks too good to be true, it probably is. Check the official Ugg Australia website to see whether the retailer you're planning to use is genuine.

Alternatively, if you’re not fussed about the brand name, you can pick up far cheaper versions at retailers such as Priceless Shoes. These ankle boots, for example, are just £12 and these mid high boots are only £8!

If, on the other hand, you’re looking for some wellington boots, Millets has a selection of wellies starting from £11.99 and Barratts has a range of wellies for both men and women from £15. And if you get in quick, you can get 12% off orders over £5 at Barratts if you use the voucher code on vouchercodes.co.uk. This expires today (19 December).

Jackets and gloves

If you’re after a winter jacket or a snug fleece, once again Millets has some great bargains. Right now, this men’s North Face fleece has £10 off at £29.99, while this women’s Peter Storm fleece has £15 off at £14.99.

Debenhams also has some good deals, with this Animal ‘Tatiana’ tech jacket for women coming in at £64 (RRP £80) and this parka coat for men at £63.20 (RRP £79).

Alternatively, head over to Republic where this men’s Crafted Leyton Jacket is £49.99 or you can pick up two jackets for £50 (you can mix and match)! What’s more, you can get 10% off orders over £50 with this code from vouchercodes.co.uk. Hurry though as this expires today.

Moving onto gloves, Surfdome has a great range at decent prices. These Quiksilver Men’s Gloves are £13.99, these Animal Snow Gloves are £29.99, and these Emu Urunga Gloves for women are £24.99. What’s more, if you order today (19 December), you’ll get 20% off with this code.

ASOS is also worth a look – these ladies’ sheepskin gloves are just £26 and should keep you nice and snug!

Hot water bottles!

According to research from price comparison site, Idealo.co.uk, thanks to icy weather and high gas prices, demand for hot water bottles has risen by 165% this month! But rather than waiting for the kettle to boil, apparently it’s microwavable bottles that are most sought-after.

So if you fancy getting your hands on one to stay warm, Amazon has a great selection. This delightful leopard print hot water bottle is £8.99, while if you’re looking for something a little more special, this cute puppy microwavable warmer is £6.45.

Alternatively, if you’re happy to stick with tradition, why not brighten up your hot water bottle with a fancy cover? Boots is a good place to look, with this adorable baby penguin hot water bottle cover for £15. (Ok, it’s a bit of a splurge but it might make you smile during the freezing winter months!)

Electric blankets and slankets

If your bed feels a little chilly at night, why not pick up an electric blanket to help you stay nice and toasty? Argos is selling this double electric underblanket for £19.99.

Or if you’d prefer a slanket, you can pick one up in a range of colours at Findmeagift.com from just £17.99 (depending on colour). Or if you really want to go to town, you can choose a leopard print, flower print or pirate print version for £24.99.

Car maintenance

With more snow and ice on the roads, it’s more important than ever to ensure your car is ready for it! You can find 10 top tips for preparing your car in Protect your car from costly winter crises.

Some of the items you might need to get your hands on this include tyre pressure and tread depth gauges which you can pick up from Halfords for just £6.99.

De-icer is also well worth investing in and you can pick up a 300ml can for 99p at Euro Car Parts. This nifty website also has battery chargers starting from £11.99 which could be handy to have on standby if you travel by car on a regular basis.

And for anti-freeze, take a look at Camskill where you can pick up a litre for £2.99.

Alternatively, if you’d prefer to buy it all in one go, this winter essentials kit contains de-icer, screenwash and an ice scraper and costs £3.99 at Camskill. Meanwhile, this winter essentials kit from Halfords costs £9.99 and contains screen wash, de-icer, lock de0ice WD-40, ice scraper and a demister pad.
