The UK's most expensive hotel rooms
If you fancy enjoying some luxury in our fair isles, then these are the hotel rooms for you!
Earlier this month I wrote about the most expensive hotel rooms in the world. However, don't be fooled into thinking that such high-end accomodation is the exclusive preserve of our foreign friends - the UK has plenty of pricy rooms to offer too!
The UK used to have the most expensive hotel rooms in Europe, but polls show that it has recently fallen down the ranks in terms of cost, so now might be a good time to find a bargain, albeit a fairly expensive one!!
England
The Langham and The Lanesborough offer the most expensive hotel suites in the country. At around £5,000 - £6,000 a night for a stay in their premier suites, they are considerably more costly than their nearest contenders around the country – but there are still some impressively expensive hotels elsewhere if you know where to look.
If you would rather stay out of the hustle and bustle of London, then you don’t have to travel far. Just outside the capital in Berkshire is the luxurious Cliveden House Hotel. A king-sized deluxe suite will set you back around £1,082 a night, but you do get use of the spa thrown in. If your pockets are still weighing you down, you could partake of the world’s most expensive afternoon tea. You get a side serving of white truffles (retailing at £2,500 per kilo), Beluga Caviar (at a cost of £4,000 per kilo) and Da Hong Pao Tea (which costs over £2,000 per kilo), as well as a glass of Dom Perignon Rose champagne. This small snack will set you back £550 per couple (might be wise to down the whole bottle of champagne for that price).

If you are thinking of taking a trip a bit further North, then you could book into ‘Manchester’s most fashionable hotel’, The Lowry. Situated on the bank of the River Irwell, it is billed as the first five-star hotel in Greater Manchester and houses a lavish Marco Pierre White restaurant and luxury spa. The Riverside Suite will set you back around £1,000 per night.
Wales
Although Newport is not usually synonymous with the word ‘luxury’, it is home to the premier 5* hotel, the Celtic Manor. Perched high on a hill, with a lovely view of the M4 (not something that is dwelt upon in the promotional brochure!), it boasts three Championship Golf Courses. It has played host to the Ryder Cup, so may well appeal more to golf enthusiasts, but there is also a luxury spa for those less enamoured with the sport. Stay in style at the Resort Presidential Suite, a snip at £1,028 per night.
If you would prefer to be in the capital the St David's Hotel and Spa offers beautiful views of the regenerated waterfront in Cardiff Bay. You can get a Deluxe Master Suite with king-sized bed and a large balcony for a mere £748 per night, as well as use of the impressive looking Marine Spa.
Scotland
Edinburgh is awash with 5* hotels ranging from historic luxury hotels like The Balmoral, where the Presidential Suite will cost up to £2,000 a night, to small luxury boutique townhouses like Edinburgh Residence where a Townhouse Suite will cost around £350 a night, but can go up to around £600 during the Edinburgh Festival.

If you like Belfast then you can follow in the shoes of Michael Douglas and Robbie Williams and book into the Palace Suite at the Culloden Estate and Spa for around £1,500. With its deluxe marble bathroom and separate dining room and lounge area it’s more of an apartment than a hotel room, but is ideal for entertaining your celebrity friends.
It's not quite part of the UK, but the Republic of Ireland is a favourite destination for many Brits, despite its reputation as an expensive place to holiday. And while recent years have seen prices decrease for the average traveller, that is not to say that you can’t find somewhere to offload large sums of money!
