Current Discounts And Deals #62

Updated on 17 February 2009 | 2 Comments

Whether you're looking for cheaper petrol, 2 for 1 on dinner out, fantastic deals on films or a designer lippie for £2.50, here's the lowdown on how to get 'em!

It's one of life's little ironies that as soon as the British weather starts hotting up, our summer sales cool right down.

As I predicted in the last weekend edition of Money Saving Tips, high street sales are disappearing faster than chocolate biscuits from the TMF HQ kitchen.

However, there are still discounts and deals to be had -- if you know where to find them. So here's my round-up of the best offers available on the high street and the web this weekend.

Film, games and gadgets

First up this week, The Hut has a host of DVDs on offer from just £2.93 each -- and on some movies, that's a whopping saving of 85% off the RRP. My top picks are Notting Hill, Jarhead and The Big Lebowski -- all are under £3!

HMV.com is also offering great deals on a couple of modern classics this weekend. The Odyssey-inspired O Brother, Where Art Thou is reduced by £6.00 to a bargainous £2.99, and cult film Withnail & I is on offer at the same price. All together now: "I demand to have some booze!"

Over at Zavvi, there are a couple of great offers on box sets. Seasons one and two of Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant's hilarious Extras are available for £7.99 -- a reduction of £20 off the RRP. The Alien Vs. Predator box set, which contains all seven films featuring the scary duo, is now reduced by £49 to £10.99.

This next one's on the silly side, but I'm sure there are Fools (apart from me) who'll appreciate it: this Dogtanian DVD is just £1.99 from WHSmith.co.uk. It's a full length film starring the canine incarnation of Alexandre Dumas's famous hero. All for one and one for all!

Fans of the Bourne movie trilogy might also be interested in The Bourne Conspiracy game. It's currently available from Shopto.net at £22.99 for both the Xbox 360 and PS3 -- that's a saving of £27 on the RRP.

And anyone in the market for a Sat Nav system might be interested in this offer from Currys. You could get 10% off if you buy any system before midnight on Sunday 27 July -- just enter the code SATNAV10 at the checkout.

At Comet, this 120GB hard-drive for the Xbox 360 has £50 off. It's now £79.99.

Last, but definitely not least, these Sennheiser wireless headphones are on offer at Play.com. They're smart, stylish and now down from £44.99 to £29.99.

Dining in and dining out

Back again this weekend is M&S's `2 dine in for £10' offer. You can choose a main course, a side dish and a dessert for two, plus a bottle of wine, for £10. The offer ends on Sunday 27 July, and you can check out the menu here.

If you're looking to make the most of the sunshine while it lasts, you might fancy eating outside. In that case, Wilkinson's offer of 25% off garden furniture might tempt you.

Elsewhere, Wagamama is offering a range of discounts and deals to customers for the rest of the summer. Sign up for its email alerts and you'll receive information about offers each week.

If you sign up now, then log in to the Summer Slurpin' page via the member area, you could still get 2 for 1 on main courses until Sunday 27 July.

Extra tips and tidbits

Elsewhere this week, laid-back surfy store Fat Face has discounted selected items by 50% -- good news for anyone still looking for cheap togs!

If they're shopping online, fans of high street favourites Dorothy Perkins and Urban Outfitters can also save a chunk of change this weekend as both stores are offering free delivery on online orders.

At Dorothy Perkins, enter the code DPEM72 to get free shipping on all orders of any size until 1 August. At Urban Outfitters, use the code FREEPP to get free postage and packing on orders over £45 until Monday 28 July.

I know the summer holidays have only just started, but if you want to get ahead before the next school year is upon us you might want to check out Adams's 3 for 2 offer on school uniform.

And cosmetics junkies can once again earn 1000 extra Advantage Card points at Boots.com this weekend. Stock up on three premium beauty items (including one skincare product), and you'll get £10 worth of points added to your total.

Here's another one for beauty hounds: Buycosmetics.com has a range of Calvin Klein lipsticks on offer at just £2.50! Choose from four classic, neutral shades -- all of which have 81% off.

Finally, a little ray of sunshine for those of us feeling the pinch every time we go to the petrol station: three of the UK's biggest supermarkets have started a price war!

Asda has reduced the price of unleaded and diesel by 3p per litre, while Morrisons has shaved 4p off the price of both. At Sainsbury's, shoppers who spend at least £50 can get 5p off their fuel in a promotion that will run until 7 August. In a bid to trump them all, Tesco has cut 4p off petrol and diesel, rising to 5p for customers who spend £50 or more.

Have a fun and Foolish weekend!

Offers Which Continue To Be Valid:

Here's a nifty website highlighted by Fool reader steviewunda. Offer Of The Day lists a range of bargain items from retailers including Argos, John Lewis and Tesco. Latest offers include this Pro Evolution football from Argos for just £2.99.

Voucher code heaven can be found at myvouchercodes.co.uk, a website which lists a range of discount codes and printable vouchers to help you save on your everyday shopping. You may also want to check out codes.co.uk and hotukdeals.com.

And Amazon fans looking for a bargain should take note of Price Cut Review, a nifty website that lists all current Amazon products selling at half price or less.
