Fancy 2 for 1 meals, cheaper choccies and 75% off box set DVDs this weekend? Look no further...

Welcome, Fools, to another edition of Money Saving Tips!

However grim the weather might be this Saturday and Sunday, some of these new discounts and deals should see you smiling through the weekend.

Indoor entertainment

Watching a few DVDs is the perfect way to while away a dismal day. As if in anticipation of the coming autumn, there's a raft of offers available on film this weekend -- here's my pick of the bunch.

First up, Play.com has a selection of DVD box sets on offer at £9.99 -- which means some titles have as much as 75% off. Among my favourites are the Spiderman trilogy, this Seinfeld box set with both seasons one and two, and (ahem) this Dallas season three set, which includes a 'Who Shot J.R.?' featurette.

Also at Play.com, Disney's The Jungle Book is available for a bargainous £7.99. The film, which has £14 off its usual price, comes with a whole host of special features to celebrate its fortieth anniversary.

If it's crazy comedy you're interested in, you can also get your hands on both Ace Ventura films for £4.99 this weekend from Play.com. To anyone who detests Jim Carrey's rubber-faced pet detective (but whose other half is now bound to purchase these films), I sincerely apologise.

Perhaps fans of the classics will be appeased by my telling them about this deal on the complete Fawlty Towers box set. It's currently available for £12.99 from HMV.com, reduced by £6.80.

If you're a mum, dad or child minder in need of a few TV treats to keep the kids occupied, uWish.co.uk could provide the answer to your prayers. Right now, there's a 5 for £10 offer on selected DVDs -- perfect for days when playing in the park is not an option.

The clearance sale at Argos includes offers on a wide variety of toys and games for youngsters, too. My favourites are this truly terrifying alien voice-changer mask, £4.99, and this far cuter Lunar Jim talking helmet, £2.89.

Anyone in need of a portable music player might be interested in this Sony Video Walkman MP3 player. It's on offer at £39.99 at Play.com -- that's £60 off the original price.

Bookworms might want to check out Waterstone.com's range of summer discounts. Savings of up to 50% are available on a range of fiction and non-fiction titles.

Also, Harry Potter fans might be interested in pre-ordering J.K. Rowling's new release, The Tales Of Beedle The Bard, from Waterstones.com. It's available for £4.99 delivered -- that's the cheapest price on the web.

Dining in and out

I love it when a new money saving bandwagon starts rolling -- and M&S seems to have set one on its way. Waitrose is now offering its own version of the store's successful meal deal: hungry shoppers can get a pizza, salad and cheesecake of their choice, plus a bottle of wine, all for a humble £10.

Those who prefer to make their own dinner might be tempted this weekend by Amazon's offer on this slow cooker. It's now half price at £14.99.

Dieters look away now -- Thorntons has discounted a range of chocolates. Whether you're looking to buy a gift for a friend or simply indulge yourself, you can now do so for less. Delicious!

And anyone looking to dine out can get 2 for 1 on main meals at both Wagamama and Strada this weekend. Does that make it acceptable to visit both restaurants?

As part of its continuing Summer Slurpin' campaign, Wagamama is offering one main meal free per two purchased until 10 August, at all restaurants except its Royal Festival Hall branch in London. Simply sign up for the newsletter, download your voucher and go!

To get your Strada discount, you'll need to buy this Saturday's Guardian and Sunday's Observer. Cut out your vouchers and you'll be able to scoff at all its restaurants except the Royal Festival Hall, More London (Tower Bridge) and Center Parcs branches.

Final clearance offers

As the skies have been mainly cloudy this week, you probably don't need to be reminded that, in retail terms at least, this year's summer is now pretty much over.

Several retailers have now made their (absolutely!) final reductions on sale items -- so if you're still after a clothing bargain, head to Dorothy Perkins, Topshop or Debenhams this weekend.

Amazon is also offering up to 75% off clearance footwear -- well worth checking out if you need something new.

Finally, one for DIY bunnies: B&Q is offering in-store discounts on clearance items from Friday 8 August. Get that cheap emulsion before it goes!

Have a fun and Foolish weekend.

Offers which continue to be valid:

If you're a fan of Tom Hanks, this special five disc DVD boxset includes Road to Perdition, Man With One Red Shoe, and one of my personal favourites, Big, for just £6.97 at Asda Entertainment.

Gamers looking for a bargain can currently pick up an Xbox 360 Arcade pack, including a brand new Xbox 360 console, wireless controller, 256 MB memory unit and five games for just £148.71 at Tesco Direct.

Plus, for a limited time, enter voucher code TDX-FDAN at the checkout to get an extra £15 off the price. The code can be used on all purchases over £100, so if an Xbox isn't your thing but a Wii is, why not.?

Sticking with gaming, hours of fun are on offer with the ingenious Guitar Hero, available now on the Wii for just £39.97 at Amazon.

O2 has just reduced its Online 25 Simplicity tariff by £5, meaning you can now get 600 minutes and unlimited texts, plus your choice of `bolt on', such as unlimited 02 to O2 calls for just £20 a month instead of £25.

This provides good value for those who don't mind using their old handset in return for a great deal. The offer runs throughout August.

If you fancy taking a trip across the channel but don't want to break the bank, P & O Ferries is offering trips from Dover to Calais for just £2 for foot passengers and from £15 for cars carrying up to nine people. Terms and conditions apply.

Voucher code heaven can be found at myvouchercodes.co.uk, a website which lists a range of discount codes and printable vouchers to help you save on your everyday shopping. You may also want to check out codes.co.uk and hotukdeals.com.

And Amazon fans looking for a bargain should take note of Price Cut Review, a nifty website that lists all current Amazon products selling at half price or less.
