Current Discounts And Deals #70

Updated on 17 February 2009 | 2 Comments

Autumn may be upon us, but you can still find some hot discounts and deals. This weekend, get films under £5, a new mobile SIM for 50p, a hotel room for £9 and 80% off women's clothing!

It's that time of year again, Fools: schools are re-opening, nights are beginning to draw in and yellowed leaves are already fluttering from the trees.

As I sat researching this latest installment of Money Saving Tips this morning, I felt -- dare I say it -- downright chilly. So perhaps it's no coincidence that some of this weekend's best offers are on indoor entertainment.

Why not put the kettle on, do a spot of savvy online shopping, then settle down to enjoy some fun from the comfort of your front room?

Film, music, games and gadgets

First up this weekend, there are some great deals available for gamers.

Gears of War 2, The Limited Collector's Edition -- not due for release until 7 November -- is currently available to pre-order at Zavvi, for £39. Buyers will save £10.99 on the RRP, and benefit from free delivery.

Wii fans will also find a selection of special offers at Play.com right now -- there's a range of games available for £9.99. Titles include The Golden Compass, CSI: Hard Evidence and Telly Addicts (yes, really).

Elsewhere, SendIt.com is offering 75% off a selection of films, games and albums in its end of season sale. Series 2 of Life On Mars is available for £11.49 -- that's £28.50 less than the RRP -- and the Xbox 360 game Halo 3 is reduced to £17.79, from £49.99.

And Tesco Jersey has come up trumps again with its discounted DVDs and CDs. There's a wide variety of DVDs available for £5 or less, including one of my slushy favourites, The Notebook. Don't watch this one without a hanky handy!

If it's music you're after, there's a selection of albums available for under £8. Highlights include The Last Shadow Puppets' The Age Of Understatement, £6.97, and Ring Of Fire - The Legend Of Johnny Cash, £6.00.

Recently got back from your summer hols? If your swanky digital camera is still full of photos from your summer holiday, you might be tempted by this offer from Photobox. When you sign up as a new user, you'll get 50 prints for free -- perfect if you'd like to get your images ready to go in an album.

Finally, Pay As You Go (PAYG) mobile users might be interested in this next deal. As my Foolish friend Szu Ping Chan recently reported, the Asda network's calls and texts are now the cheapest on offer from a PAYG provider -- and SIM cards are currently available for a bargainous 50p from the Asda website!

Clothes and accessories

Discounted togs are thin on the ground now the new autumn/winter season has officially started -- but there are still one or two places you can bag a bargain this weekend.

At online men's store BlueInc, there's a selection of t-shirts, shirts and accessories reduced by 50% or more.

Meanwhile, Bargain Crazy is offering up to 80% off its remaining summer items. There are some great items available at very low prices -- this Kirsty Doyle foil dress is reduced from £89 to £13!

However, if it's warm winter wear you're after, you might want to log on to Bhs.co.uk this weekend. There's currently at least 20% off all womenswear purchased online, so now is the perfect time to stock up on autumn items.

Looking ahead

Travelodge -- whose bargainous £19 hotel rooms have had regular mentions in our Money Saving Tips articles -- has gone one better than usual with its latest offer.

Two million rooms will be available for just £9 between December and February -- so if you're planning a trip during this time, get clicking before they all go!

Finally, I couldn't let this edition of Money Saving Tips pass me by without checking out pre-order offers on a DVD release I'm eagerly awaiting. Perhaps it's the gloomy weather, but the thought of snuggling up with a hot chocolate and a chick flick makes the afternoon seem brighter.

Arguably the summer's hottest film, Sex And The City: The Movie is released later this month. The best place to pre-order the standard one disc version from is Play.com, where it's available for £9.99 delivered. This represents a huge saving of £13 off the RRP -- hurrah!

Hardcore fans after the two disc box set (that would be me, then) might want to consider pre-ordering it from TheHut, where it's available for £13.93 delivered -- £11 less than the RRP.

Have a fun and Foolish weekend!

Offers which continue to be valid:

If you're looking to travel in the UK between now and the end of this month, this offer could be of interest to you. National Express has 25,000 coach seats (single, one way) on offer for just £1. They can be used for travel between now and 30 September, but booking is required by 14 September.

Play.com are currently running an `Everything for £5' sale where, you guessed it, everything costs £5! You can get your mitts on everything from books, DVDs, gadgets, music and even clothing, all for a just fiver.

Sticking with Play, the online entertainment guru has a range of DVDs for just £2.99.

If that £2.99 deal wasn't enough, here's another one! HMV has followed in Play's footsteps and has its own selection of bargain DVDs, including chick flick In Her Shoes, Jerry Maguire and cult classic Donnie Darko.

Blackleaf.com has a selection of Converse trainers with up to 50% off -- great news for anyone in need of a cheap and chic casual wardrobe update.

Voucher code heaven can be found at myvouchercodes.co.uk, a website which lists a range of discount codes and printable vouchers to help you save on your everyday shopping. You may also want to check out codes.co.uk and hotukdeals.com.

And Amazon fans looking for a bargain should take note of Price Cut Review, a nifty website that lists all current Amazon products selling at half price or less.
