Current Discounts And Deals #76

Updated on 17 February 2009 | 3 Comments

If you fancy 70% off fashion and homewares, 50% off new books, two delicious dinners for a tenner -- or just some light reading after this week's financial gloom -- check out our roundup of discounts and deals.

This week, most articles on The Fool have made for pretty grim reading. The global financial crisis has (rightly) dominated our output this week -- and at points I've found myself wondering if life really will go on as before.

But looming around the proverbial corner -- just 75 days away -- is Christmas. Seasonal products are now creeping into supermarket aisles everywhere, and gift catalogues have begun appearing in high street stores.

So if the events of the past week have left you worried about how you'll pay for presents this year, take a look at my latest roundup of discounts and deals. I've deliberately selected offers on items suitable as gifts this week, to help fellow Fools in need of festive bargains.

Gadgets

First up this week: gadgets.

This clever alarm clock from PC World is more than it seems. Reduced by £40 at PC World, it's a digital picture frame, mp3 player and radio all in one. It's now £39.97.

And at Asda, this Nikon Coolpix camera is on offer at £69. Its original RRP was a whopping £199.99, so it's a great bargain.

Games and DVDs

At Game Station, Grand Theft Auto IV for the Xbox 360 is now reduced to £24.98 -- that's £25 less than the RRP.

And here's a lovely gift for fans of classic film: at PowerPlayDirect.com this Breakfast At Tiffany's set containing the film, a make-up bag and an address book, is just £5.99.

Play.com has reduced the price of Christopher Nolan's cult classic film-in-reverse, Memento, to £4.99. That's a saving of £20 off the RRP.

Also at Play, The Hitchiker's Guide To The Galaxy TV series box set is now £6.99 -- £18 less than the RRP.

Over at HMV.com, The Sixth Sense is now reduced from £19.99 to £3.99. All together now: I see dead people.

Finally, if it's a dose of pure joy you're after, HMV.com's two for one offer on Disney DVDs might provide it. Right now, when you buy one movie you'll get another thrown in free. I simply can't choose!

Books

Right now, Waterstones.com is offering 50% off four "essential new reads". The offer ends on Wednesday 15 October, though, so get clicking if any of them take your fancy.

Fashion, beauty and homewares

At Fat Face, there are discounts of up to 50% available on menwear, womenswear and childrenswear.

And at M&S, there's a lingerie and nightwear sale -- useful if you're looking to buy something special for a lady this Christmas.

At Play.com, this Terminator t-shirt is reduced by £7 to £4.99. And Office has begun its mid-season sale; there's now up to 50% off shoes for men and women.

At House of Fraser, there's up to 70% off a range of homewares, fashion and accessories in its sale.

Similarly, Debenhams is offering up to 70% off items in its clearance sale. Lines of clothing, accessories and homewares are all discounted -- but my favourite deal is on this classic Le Creuset casserole dish, reduced from £62 to £40. It's perfect for cooking up tasty winter roasts!

If it's beauty products you're looking for, there are a couple of offers from Boots this week that might interest you. This St Tropez self-tan gift set is now half price, reduced to £22.50, and this No7 illuminated mirror is also reduced by 50%, and is now £19.99.

Staying in and going out

If you're a driver, here's some news that might cheer you: this morning, Tesco cut the price of fuel at its forecourts by 3p per litre. The cut applies to all grades of fuel, including diesel.

And finally, if you're in need of some comfort food this weekend, M&S might have the solution: its two dine in for £10 offer is back, and this weekend's menu is available to view here.

Have a fun and Foolish weekend.

Offers which continue to be valid:

If the credit crunch has left you dining in a bit more often, why not treat yourself to this 2 for 1 deal at Strada, where you can munch despite the crunch on all main meals until 23rd October.

The deal comes courtesy of Handbag.com, and is valid at all restaurants except Center Parcs from Sunday to Thursday.

England may have had a pretty dismal year in terms of football, but with only two competitive games left in 2008, if you're looking to pick up a cheap England shirt, Sports Direct is selling the current short sleeved home shirt for just £4.49. That's £40 less than the recommended retail price.

Avid gamers might like to know that The Game Collection is currently selling any three games from a selected range for just £20. If you're a student, you can get an extra 10% off the selling price, bringing the total down to £18.

Finally, if you thought Guitar Hero was fun, wait until you see this.

Now you can assemble your very own group with Rock Band on the Xbox 360. Tesco Direct is currently selling the set, which includes a bass and electric guitar, drum kit and microphone for £97.71. Endless fun -- though I have a funny feeling your neighbours wouldn't be too pleased...

Voucher code heaven can be found at myvouchercodes.co.uk, a website which lists a range of discount codes and printable vouchers to help you save on your everyday shopping. You may also want to check out codes.co.uk and hotukdeals.com.

And Amazon fans looking for a bargain should take note of Price Cut Review, a nifty website that lists all current Amazon products selling at half price or less.
