Current Discounts And Deals #78

Updated on 17 February 2009 | 1 Comment

Fancy 50% off fashion, half price skincare, 20% off winter woolies or a great deal on a games console? Look no further!

After another week of negative financial news, the weekend is finally here. And whether you're on the hunt for cheap and cheerful treats, or searching for excellent yet economical Christmas presents, there'll be something for you in this week's roundup of current discounts and deals.

Film and box sets

When it's cold outside and the TV news is all doom and gloom, I take great delight in laughing at a lighthearted DVD. This weekend, there are several great offers on films and box sets which should chase the blues away.

First up, this seasons one to five Peep Show box set is reduced to £16.89 at Sendit.com. That's a saving of £33 off the RRP -- and a great deal for fans of the unlikely, unlucky duo Mark and Jeremy.

Also at Sendit.com, this Coupling seasons one to four box set is reduced to £15.89 -- £24 less than the RRP. Hailed as Britain's answer to Friends, the comedy series follows the lives, loves and loopy antics of six male and female mates.

Classic comedy is also available for less this weekend: at HMV.com, The Complete Fawlty Towers box set is reduced to £11.99. I defy anyone not to laugh at the sight of Basil beating up his car with a branch -- credit crunch or no credit crunch!

And if you still can't help wishing you were somewhere over the rainbow this weekend, you could always sing along with Judy Garland. The Wizard Of Oz Collector's Edition box set is reduced to £5.99 right now at HMV.com. It contains a digitally re-mastered version of the original film, plus tons of special features.

Fun and games

There's good news for game fans this weekend too: Asda has a brilliant offer on the Xbox 360. In stores, the 60GB console is available for £167 and comes with two games -- Pro-Evolution Soccer 2009 (RRP £49.99) and Fable 2 (RRP £44.99). The offer will be available at branches of Asda until Monday 27 October; you can find your nearest store here, and I'd recommend calling them to check stock before setting out.

Meanwhile, Wii devotees can get their hands on this cut-price Boogie game at Zavvi. At £17.99, it has £12 off -- and it comes complete with its own microphone!

If you're more of a bookworm, this £5 Borders voucher might come in handy. To redeem it, you'll need to spend £25 online or in store, and either present a print-out of the coupon or use the discount code BOR1008.

Finally, I feel this Santa costume from WilkinsonPlus is well worth a mention. It's a recession-busting £3 and is sure to raise a few smiles -- whether you save it for Christmas, use it as a Halloween costume or just, erm, lounge around the house in it.

Fashion and beauty

With the high street set to struggle this season, perhaps it's no wonder shops are already offering discounts on a variety of goods.

At La Senza, there's currently £10 off selected silk underwear, as well as additional offers including a two for £18 deal on bras and a buy one, get one free offer on pyjamas.

Meanwhile, BHS is hosting a two day Megaday event. On Friday 24 and Saturday 25 October, everything on its website will have 20% off.

Topshop and Topman have also started sales this week. There's up to 50% off both womenswear and menswear.

And if you're a fan of Radley accessories, check out John Lewis this weekend. There's 20% off its entire, extensive range of handbags and purses. This offer will run until 8 November.

As cold weather and dark nights are now closing in, you might feel you're in need of some new woolies. Luckily, there's 20% off all knitwear at Dorothy Perkins online until Monday 27 October. Simply enter the code DPKNIT20 at the checkout to claim your saving.

Elsewhere, Grazia magazine's Easy Chic Week means you could get 20% off items at a range of retailers: Coast, Faith, Oasis, Flannels, Principles, Uniqlo and Wallis are all taking part. The magazine, which costs £1.90, contains vouchers to cut out and use in store, as well as a selection of online discount codes. (The issue to buy is dated 27 October 2008.)

Finally, if it's beauty products you're after, why not check out the new Face Range from The Purity Project. Its newly launched selection of cleansers, moisturisers and serums is naturally and ethically produced -- and currently, there is 50% off the whole range when you enter the code LAUNCH50 at the checkout.

Food and homewares

If you're on the lookout for new homewares, it's worth being aware we're entering the final few days of Debenhams' Blue Cross Sale. Currently, there are discounts of up to 70% off available across a wide variety of lines in store and online -- but they're due to end on Sunday 26 October.

And anyone after an indulgent treat this weekend might be tempted by Morrisons' offer on Ben and Jerry's ice cream. 500ml tubs of the sweet stuff usually retail for around £3.75, but right now the supermarket is selling it for a credit-crunch-tastic £1.80. Delicious!

And back once again to brighten the weekend is M&S's two dine in for £10 offer. For a fiver per person, you can indulge in a delicious main meal, side dish, dessert and bottle of wine. This week's menu is available to view here, and the offer lasts until Sunday 26 October.

Have a fun and Foolish weekend!

Offers which continue to be valid:

Here's a bargain that will bring a smile to the face of any committed computer gamer. At Sendit.com, you can pre-order Call Of Duty: World At War for the Playstation 3 or Xbox 360 for £37.89 -- £12 less than the RRP.

The game will be released on 14 November, and Wii users can pick up their version of it for £27.89, also at Sendit.com. Again, they'll save £12 on the RRP.

Another nicely priced pre-order is the picturesque Dylan Thomas biopic, The Edge Of Love. It's due out on 27 October, but can be bought in advance for £9.90 from Woolworths -- £10 less than the RRP.

Finally, Travelodge has now made more £19 rooms available for stays during December and January. To bag one, you'll need to book at least 21 days in advance.
