Bargain Booze For Festive Fools!

Where to find great value drinks for this Christmas and New Year.

New Year's Eve can be an expensive night. Going out to a bar, pub or club is likely to mean paying an entry fee -- not to mention seasonably steep prices for drinks.

However, even staying in isn't cheap if you plan to bring in the New Year with a bang. The price of champagne and spirits will put a strain on any budget, especially in these credit crunched times.

Luckily, there are some great discounts and deals available on seasonal sauce. Here's my pick of the best from some of Britain's biggest retailers.

Champagne and sparkly stuff

Top tipples under £10:

         Sainsbury's Taste The Difference Cava is now half price at £4.99.

         Maschio Prosecco Spumante Extra Dry is currently half price at Tesco, and costs £4.99.

         At Somerfield, Codorniu Extra Brut is half price at £4.99.

         Hardy's Crest Rosé or Pinot Noir Sparkling wine is reduced to £5.48 at Tesco.

         At Ocado, Jacob's Creek Sparking Rosé, Chardonnay, Pinot Noir or Shiraz wines are discounted to £6.98.

         Creeping in just beneath the £10 barrier, Tesco's Andre Carpentier Champagne is now less than half price at £9.98.

         And dead on £10 is this Champagne Dubrince Brut NV from Morrison's. It's reduced from £24.99.

£15 and under:

         Etienne Drumont champagne is now half price at Sainsbury's, and costs £11.99.

         At Tesco, there's 50% off Champagne Francois Dubois Non Vintage Brut. It's now £14.

         Morrison's has Lanson Black Label champagne on offer at £14.98 -- £11 less than its original price.

         Also at Tesco, Delacoste Blanc De Blanc Champagne is now half price at £15.

£25 and under:

         Another hot half price offer from Tesco: De Vallois Vint Champagne is now £17, reduced from £34.

         At Ocado, Mumm Corden Rouge Champage is reduced by £5.20. It's now £20.70.

         Finally, Ocado has knocked £6 off bottles of Veuve Clicquot Yellow Label Brut NV. It's down to £23.73 -- that's the lowest price available from all four of Britain's major supermarkets.

Wine

At ASDA, there's currently a 3 for £10 deal on selected red, white and rosé wines.

At Morrison's, Jacob's Creek Reserve Shiraz is reduced by a third to £5.97, and Reserve Rosé is down to £3.99. Blossom Hill Pinot Grigio is also reduced to £3.99.

Tesco has cut the price of its Finest Chablis by £3, to £5.98, while Sainsbury's discounted Hardy's Crest red and white wines by 50%. They're now £4.99 each.

There are also half price offers at Tesco, where wines including Rawnsley Estate Chardonnay, Rawnsley Estate Cabernet and Curious Cove New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc are reduced to £4.99 per bottle.

Big wine drinkers may want to consider buying in bulk, however.

The Tesco Wine Club currently has offers on a huge range of wines (including champagnes and sparkling wines), and your order can still be delivered in time for New Year's Eve if you place it before 22 December.

Meanwhile, specialist wine retailer Oddbins has a variety of offers on wines when two, three or 12 bottles are bought together.

Similarly, Majestic is offering discounts for customers who buy several bottles at once. You can order online for collection in store before Christmas.

Finally, this voucher is well worth printing and taking to your local branch of Thresher, Wine Rack or Victoria Wine. It entitles the bearer to a whopping 40% off all wines and champagnes purchased up until 31 December.

Port and spirits

Under £10:

         Ocado has Harvey's Fino Sherry on offer at £6.99.

         At ASDA, Jameson's whiskey currently costs £12.48.

         Also at ASDA, Extra Special Reserve Port is on offer at £8.18, and Tio Pepe Sherry Fino is just £7.33.

         Waitrose and Ocado are offering £3 off Graham's Late Bottled Vintage Port, so it's now £8.99.

         And at Tesco, Disaronno Amaretto is now reduced to £9.56.

Under £25:

         At Ocado, Finlandia Classic vodka is now £11.49.

         At Tesco, 1L bottles of spirits including Smirnoff Red vodka, Gordon's gin, Bacardi and Bell's whisky are £14 each.

         At Sainsbury's, there's currently £7 off bottles of Bombay Sapphire gin. They're now £14.99 each. Glemorangie 10 Year Old Malt Whiskey is also reduced by £10 at Sainsbury's, and now costs £16.99.

         Finally, Aberlour 10 Year Old Speyside Malt Whisky is now £15.99, reduced from £23.70, at Ocado and Waitrose.

Beer, cider and stout

At Sainsbury's, you can currently buy two crates of selected beer, cider or stout for £16 (usually £9 each). Meanwhile, ASDA is running a 2 for £6 offer on packs of four premium lagers, including Grolsch, Peroni and Sol.

Also at ASDA, selected ales such as Bishops Finger, Hobgoblin and London Pride are part of a 3 for £4 offer when bought in individual bottles, or a 2 for £9 offer when bought in packs of four.

Finally, Somerfield is offering a 3 for £10 deal on packs of four bottles of Corona and Cobra lagers.

Soft drinks

At ASDA, there's an amazing 4 for £1.50 offer on own-brand mixers, including tonic water, bitter lemon and ginger ale.

Meanwhile, Sainsbury's is offering 3 for £3 on a variety of soft drinks including Coca Cola and Dr Pepper. Selected fruit juices are also part of a 3 for £2 offer, and there's a 2 for £5 deal on packs of four J2O drinks. This last offer is matched by ASDA, where there is also a 3 for £7 offer on packs of J2O.

Finally, Somerfield has a buy one, get one free deal on Pepsi and a 2 for £1.50 deal on Schweppes lemonade.
