Under £5

If you’re looking to bag a bargain at Asda, you can buy online and pick up in store for free. There are some decent bargains in the sale including a Floral Slim Tie for £1.50 (was £3) but outside of the reduced items you can buy Gloves and a Knitted Beanie for £2.50 each, a Five-pack of Cotton Hankies for £4 and a Charlie Allen Wallet for £5.

Under £10

Tartan and checks are all over the high street but don’t pay more than you need to. Matalan is selling this Heritage Check Scarf for £5 and Micro Fleece Pyjama Bottoms for £8. You can also buy a Three–Pack of Gingham Check Woven Boxers or Green Stripe Jersey Boxers for £7 (was £16) at BHS. 

Under £25

If he’s always on his phone, keep him warm with Maine Black Leather Touch Screen Gloves for £17.50 at Debenhams, far more wallet-friendly than these ones at John Lewis. You can still Click & Collect until midnight tonight if you can’t make it to a store.

Tesco has some great deals too – I spotted Black Leather Gloves and a Leather Belt for £10 each and this Gunmetal Plated Bracelet Watch for £16. You can order online and use Click & Collect to get it delivered to a nearby store by 3pm Sunday 22nd December (collect in-store from 4pm 23rd December).

Ditch the cheesy Christmas jumper and buy a waffle knit instead, something they can wear for more than one day! You can buy this Jeff Banks Wool Blend Waffle Knit Jumper for £20 in blue and £22 in green at Matalan, or this Blue & Grey Waffle Knit Jumper for £16.99 at TK Maxx.

Books, toys and gadgets

Under £5

If you’re getting a book, don’t forget about Hive where you can buy books, DVDs and stationery with online discounts, but pick up from local independent bookstores (find a store near you). If he likes a crime thriller, order Devoured by D.E. Meredith for £4.39 (RRP £7.99) and The Chessman by Peter May for £4.39 (RRP £7.99). 

Under £10

Also at Hive, you can save 50% on cookery books including Hamburger Gourmet (a must-have for men who love a posh, but gigantic burger) and After Toast (ideal for students learning the kitchen ropes), both now £7.50 each (was £14.99).

It doesn’t strike me as the most festive of gifts, but if you’re buying for someone who loves to keep fit, this Pro Fitness Dumbbell Tree Set is half-price at Argos, now £9.99 (was £19.99).

Under £25

I also saw a Winmau Diamond Plus Dartboard and Deluxe Darts for £17.99 (was £22.99) and Everlast 14oz Boxing Gloves for £14.99 (was £19.99). Various sports equipment is on sale at Sports Direct too so why not team the gloves with this Lonsdale Inflatable Punch Bag for £12.99 (was £24.99).

For a big-boy toy instead, Lego has created an ‘Architecture’ series for adults and prices start from £14 for the Willis Tower in Chicago (includes a booklet full of details about the building's design and history) at Argos. These are also available at John Lewis but you can expect to pay a few quid more.

Booze and food gifts

Under £5

If he can’t start the day without some coffee, this decorative Pied A Terre Etienne Espresso Cup and Saucer is down to £5.60 (was £7) at House of Fraser and this Maxwell & Williams 'Arcobello' Espresso Cup & Saucer is £4 (was £5) at Debenhams.

Under £10

For a festive bottle, grab a bottle of Pierre Darcys Champagne Brut for only £10 (was £24.25) at Asda and look out for Dow's Trademark Finest Reserve Port (750ml) for £6 (was £10.99) and Cockburn's Special Reserve Port (750ml) for £9 (was £11.70) at Sainsbury’s.

Under £25

You can also buy Green Mark Russian Wheat Vodka (700ml) for £12 (was £16.50) and Whyte & Mackay Special Blended Scotch Whisky(1L) for £15 (was £22), both once again at Sainsbury’s.

If he loves a bottle of red, treat him to a Sagaform Wine Carafe with Oak Stopper for £20 at John Lewis.

I also came across TheSpicery.com recently. This delivery service sends out a box of recipe cards, and freshly ground spices every month, which is a lovely idea for anyone who loves to make their own curries. It costs £19.95 for three months and each box contains six or seven bags of spices to feed four people a main course and dessert.  You can also add a personal message in the checkout process.
