If you're lacking Valentine's inspiration, you've come to the right place. We've searched high and low to find a host of thoughtful, romantic and quirky gifts for under £20.

The big `V' day is approaching, your creative juices have run dry and your wallet's feeling distinctly light. We know it's all a load of over-hyped, commercial nonsense - but does your other half feel the same?

If you want to treat that special someone on February 14th, look no further. We've put together a host of thoughtful, romantic and quirky gifts, each costing under £20 - including delivery.

Cook up a heart-shaped storm

A meal at home can be turned into something really special - with a little creative thinking.

If you're cooking up the ultimate Valentine's breakfast, why not use this non-stick, heart-shaped frying pan - currently £4.45 at Amazon.

For £5.45, you could even get an `I love you' toast stamp to go with it. And remember that Amazon Super Saver Delivery is free when you spend over £5.

If your other half loves cooking, they should appreciate a pair of Le Creuset Stoneware Heart Ramekins, currently reduced to £7.50 each.

And for the sweet-toothed among us, there are these heart-shaped cookie cutters for £1.85 a set. You could even ice cute messages onto your biscuits.

Alternatively, get this heart-shaped silicone ice cube tray for £4.52. Fill each compartment with decent quality melted chocolate, then (before the chocolate sets) decorate one with smarties/sprinkles/berry fruits. the possibilities are endless.

Finally - if you really are the sort of person who could burn water - make a shop-bought cake special with these `I love you' candles, £3.87 + delivery from Getting Personal.

Say it with flowers - for less

If your loved one has their heart set on flowers, don't panic. Here are a couple of ways to impress without breaking the bank.

What about making your own origami roses? I'm not going to pretend it's a walk in the park, but it's far more original, they'll last forever and you should be able to make a bunch for far less than £20 (all you really need is the coloured paper).

Even if your efforts look nothing like flowers, you should get brownie points for effort. Here's a guide to how to do it. Good luck!

If those instructions are frazzling your brain, think traditional. Good old Marks & Spencer has come up with a bargain bouquet that should melt even the hardest of hearts.

The Cupid's Bouquet of a dozen red roses costs just £19.50 - and that includes courier delivery.

I reckon this deal is going to be very popular, so order sooner rather than later to make sure you get that February 14th slot.

Finally, if your loved one is a keen gardener, consider getting them a rose bush. That way, you can nurture your love and watch it grow as the `romance' flowers year after year.

Better still, you can get a four-litre rose bush from Crocus for around £9. Just make sure you tie a nice bow around it, as it may not have many flowers on at this time of year!

Smells like romance

If it's posh fragrance you're after, take a look in Boots. It's currently offering up 50% off a wide range of perfumes, with many big names coming in at well under £20.

Just check the perfume comparison sites as well, to make sure you can't get the scent even cheaper elsewhere. The main ones are Fragrances Compared and Cheap Perfume Expert.

If your partner is a fan of Lush cosmetics, pick up this SWALK Mmmelting Marshmallow Moment for £3.50. What does SWALK stand for? `Sealed with a loving kiss'. Cute or pukey - you decide.

Laptop love

Put a bit of romance in an unexpected place. When your loved one's not looking, set up a free romantic screensaver on his or her computer.

To complete the look, swap their mouse for this heart-shaped one, priced at £2.44 + delivery from RedSave.

Photo moments

Find a special photo of the two of you together and have it transformed. These days you can get it turned into anything from a jigsaw or mug to a cushion cover or mouse mat - all available for well under £20.

If you're feeling particularly crafty, you could even make your loved one a photo collage of your life together. The 40 x 50cm version of this wooden frame from IKEA is just £7.82.

Heat things up

If you want to keep your loved one warm while you're away, get a hot water bottle that says `I love you'.

I particularly like this little chap, priced at £5, and this furry number for £10.90 - both available from Amazon.

To top things off, why not add this deliciously warming Caramel Kiss Mix hot chocolate from Hotel Chocolat. It costs £7 + delivery, and is topped off with hundreds of tiny white chocolate hearts.

The last word in romance

Finally - a gift that teeters between wonderful and just plain weird. This Message Egg from IWantOneOfThose cracks open when watered, and a bean plant begins to grow out of it.

On the bean will be (wait for it.) a special `I love you' message! (You can also choose one that spells out `happy birthday').

You can then plant the bean and watch it grow. Genetically-engineered magic for a mere £4.95 + delivery!
