Flooding: banks' emergency support and contact numbers

Many banks are offering emergency support to those hit by the floods.

A number of banks and building societies have put together emergency support teams to help people affected by the floods. Here is what they are offering and how to contact them.

Nationwide Building Society

Mortgage borrowers who need help with their repayments should contact 0845 601 1184.

Home insurance customers with questions regarding their cover or who want to make a claim should contact 0845 835 1054.

Current account customers looking for a temporary overdraft or increase to their overdraft limit should contact 0845 601 1184.

HSBC

People affected by the floods are being offered the following support by HSBC:

  • fast-track credit acceptance, loan and overdraft extensions;
  • loan repayment holidays of up to three months;
  • possible waiving or reduction in arrangement fees of loans and overdrafts;
  • removal of limits on emergency payments for insurance customers.

Home insurance customers should call 0845 300 5899, while car insurance customers should call 0844 871 2330. Other customers can call 08457 404 404.

Royal Bank of Scotland/NatWest

Royal Bank of Scotland and NatWest are offering those borrowers hit by the floods a three-month mortgage repayment holiday.

RBS also has a Storm Business Fund which offers interest- and fee-free loans to businesses hit by the floods and gales.

Both RBS and NatWest have set up special sections of their websites with all of the details for those affected by the weather.

Santander

Overdraft extensions, for both personal and business customers, will be made without renewal or extension fees. Mortgage customers will be offered help on a case-by-case basis – this could mean payment holidays or converting the mortgage to an interest-only basis for a period.

Current facilities for small business and farmers will be extended by up to six months or 12 months respectively.

A special helpline has been set up to deal with enquiries on 0800 121 4993.

Barclays

Personal banking customers can ask for a temporary overdraft or increase to existing overdraft limits. Call 0845 7555 555.

Home insurance customers are being offered help finding temporary accommodation and emergency payments where appropriate. Contact 0800 027 9844.

Mortgage customers may be offered help depending on their circumstances.

Help is also in place for business customers, including increased overdrafts and repayment holidays of up to six months. Call 0845 605 2345.

Lloyds

Across the Lloyds Banking Group personal customers are able to access emergency payments as well as help finding alternative accommodation.

For business customers the bank is increasing overdrafts, waiving fees and providing loan repayment holidays.

Metro Bank

Metro Bank has pledged to help its affected customers on a case-by-case basis.

Coventry Building Society

Coventry says it has a range of options to help affected borrowers, including mortgage repayment holidays. Contact 0845 766 5522.

Principality Building Society

Principality will also look at how to help borrowers who may struggle with their repayments on a case-by-case basis.

Yorkshire Building Society

Yorkshire says it has a "wide range of measures" in place to help any borrowers struggling with their mortgage repayments because of the floods. They should contact the society as soon as possible to discuss their options.

HM Revenue & Customs

Even the taxman is making special arrangments, with the launch of a helpline for anyone looking for help and advice on tax issues brought about by the floods on 0800 904 7900.

HMRC says it will agree instalment payments, suspend debt collection proceedings and cancel penalties for missing the deadlines for those affected by the flooding.
