Tesco cuts cost of own-brand items and delivery charges
Own-brand products and delivery to get cheaper at supermarket giant Tesco.
Tesco has announced a raft of price cuts on selected everyday items, as well as reducing charges for online grocery orders.
It is is vying to win back shoppers with millions of pounds of reductions after the struggling supermarket revealed falling profits for the second year running.
Cheaper breakfast
A total of 30 ‘Tesco’ branded items have been reduced in the overhaul, including broccoli, peppers, sugar, lettuce and cucumber portions.
Conveniently all the elements for a traditional English breakfast have also been included, just in time for St George's Day. The price of a 210g pack of Tesco unsmoked bacon has dropped by 39p to £1.50, while Tesco baked beans are now available for 32p, saving 13p.
A medium box of six free range eggs has fallen 38p to £1, an 800g loaf of Tesco wholemeal bread now costs 75p, down 15p and 250g of Tesco English slightly salted butter has been reduced by 49p to £1. Tesco salad tomatoes have dropped 31p to 69p.
Tesco says the cuts will save a family of four that have a full English once a week £96.20 a year.

But the savings could be even better if you shop online.
Click & Collect grocery orders - where you shop online but go to a store to collect your items - are now completely free, instead of costing £3, across all 260 locations. For shoppers that regularly use this service, this means savings of up to £111.
One-hour home delivery slots will now be available for £1, a cut of £2.50 or more on ordinary prices. This could save shoppers up to £130 a year.
And Tesco has also cut the cost of its Delivery Saver scheme by £60.
It now costs £60 a year for an Anytime plan or £30 for a Midweek plan. Those signed up to the scheme could save up to £252 a year compared to paying for slots normally.
