First Bus offers Pingit as mobile bus ticket payment option
Bus travellers across the UK can pay for tickets via their smartphone and Barclays' Pingit service.
Bus travellers on First Bus services will now be able to pay for their ticket using Barclays' Pingit app.
First Bus, which is one of the UK's largest bus operators, completed rolling out Mobile Ticketing (mTicketing) this month, which allows people to use their mobile phones as bus tickets. This involves downloading the mTicketing app, putting in your payment details, purchasing a ticket via your phone and showing it to the driver when you board the bus.
It's now extended this to include Pingit, which travellers can use to pay for their ticket via the mTicketing app.
mTicketing launched in Aberdeen and Worcester in March this year. Now, more than 30,000 mTickets a month are sold across the UK.
Its introduction onto First Cymru and First Scotland East services on 3rd November concluded First’s roll-out programme, so now you can use your smartphone tickets on any First bus, except for those in Bristol, Bath and Norwich where mTicketing is limited to students.

What is Pingit?
Barclays Pingit was launched a couple of years ago as the UK’s first person-to-person mobile payment app. It means you can send money using just your mobile number, as it links up with your current account.
It’s free to download and available to everyone, not just Barclays customers. Over £775 million has been sent using the service to date. For more read Barclays launches Pingit mobile-to-mobile payments.
