New round of supermarket petrol price cuts
All four major supermarkets dropping the price of petrol.
Tesco, Asda, Sainsbury's and Morrisons have announced a new batch of motor fuel price cuts, although on petrol only.
Tesco has cut 1p a litre off the price of petrol at all of its petrol stations as of Wednesday afternoon.
Asda is cutting its prices from midnight tonight on petrol, also by one pence per litre. As a result of its national cap, that means that you’ll pay no more than 114.7p per litre for unleaded at any of its forecourts. Diesel remains unchanged, so you’ll pay no more than 119.7p per litre.
Sainsbury's and Morrisons have announced their own 1p per litre cut to petrol at their petrol stations will take effect from Thursday.
The last couple of weeks have seen a number of fuel price cuts from supermarkets, as wholesale costs continue to fall.
RAC fuel spokesman Simon Williams said: “It is vital that other retailers follow suit so the average price of petrol and diesel falls substantially across the country. The wholesale prices of both petrol and diesel have reduced dramatically in recent weeks, so much so that there is room for petrol prices to come down by over 8p a litre and diesel by over 6p a litre in the next fortnight.
“We are hopeful motorists will see average petrol prices under 112p a litre, something they will not have seen since February 2010. If this happens the cheapest retailers will no doubt be selling petrol for well under 110p a litre, perhaps even lower.”
