Frugal Food

This week we bring you new 2 for 1 and 50% off deals from Burger King, ASK, Caffé Uno, Pizza Hut, Strada, Ha Ha, iL BERTORELLI, Café Rouge and Pizza Express! There's also the chance to get £10 off your Waitrose shopping several times over and an enormous chocolate sale!

Welcome to the first Frugal Food of 2010. Let's kick things off straight away with the best grocery deals around.

Best supermarket deals

This week, I'm going to start with the best deals at Tesco. Here, 650g of white seedless grapes are down from £2.91 to £1.29, and this fresh pork leg joint is half-price, at £2.99 per kg.

Certain varieties of Pizza Express pizza are half-price, too (£1.99 reduced from £3.99). And some Nestle cereals (like these Shreddies) are also less than half-price.

At Sainsbury's, good offers include this big hot chocolate fudge cake, reduced from £5.99 to just £2.99. Or if you're feeling like something a bit healthier, pineapples are now 94p (reduced from £1.89).

There are some good half-price deals on I Can't Believe It's Not Butter, Philadelphia and Activia yoghurts. And there's 50% off 160 Typhoo tea bags as well; they're down from £3.37 to £1.68.

Over at ASDA, the best deal is on Patak's cooking sauces (500g): Each jar usually costs £1.57, but you can currently pick up two for just £1.50.

Morrisons has some very decent new offers running on fruit and veg. You can currently get 250g of cherry tomatoes, 500g of carrots, 1.5kg of potatoes or four apples - all for just 30p each. Morrisons is also selling boxes of 15 free range eggs for just £2.

Somerfield has its own good deal on I Can't Believe It's Not Butter - it's currently selling 500g tubs for just 48p, reduced from £1.20.

And you can get a vitamin fix there, too: Innocent smoothies (250ml) are currently reduced from £1.85 to 92p. Note that both these deals are also available at the Co-op.

Over at Lidl, the best deals include six-packs of Muller Fruit Corners reduced from £2.97 to £1.48, red onions reduced from 59p to 29p per pack, and white cabbages reduced from 68p to 29p per kg.

And finally, ALDI's Super Six has come up trumps again: For example, you can now pick up six-packs of kiwis for 39p, three peppers for 59p and six Conference pears for 49p.

There are sometimes much better deals on offer at street markets and independent shops than there are at the supermarkets. Unfortunately, their local nature makes it impossible for us to cover them properly here.

If you've come across a great food deal at your local market, please do leave a comment at the bottom of the article letting us know. That way, fellow readers in your local area can take advantage of the offer you've flagged up.

Tipple

Many people I know have decided to have a 'dry' January, to let their livers recover from all that Christmas cheer!

If you're not among them, you might want to pop over to the wine sale at Marks & Spencer, where you can get up to 50% off your favourite tipple.

Best restaurant deals

January has brought with it a whole raft of excellent new restaurant offers. In fact, there are more '2 for 1' and '50% off' deals than you can shake a stick at!

As always, the newest deals appear at the top of the table.

Cut price snacks

For snacks at bargain basement prices, have a poke around in the 'Christmas' section of your local supermarket.

Many stores have slashed the price of seasonal treats like mince pies, chocolate tree santas and food hampers - so if you don't mind eating Christmas treats for a while longer, you could pick up some real bargains.

For example, I've just been to my local Waitrose and come away with some posh Duchy Original mince pies, reduced from around £1.50 to just 28p. Good luck!

Voucher codes

Buy the Telegraph newspaper on any Saturday or Sunday until 24th January, and inside you'll find a voucher giving you £10 off a £50+ spend at Waitrose.

Each voucher will be valid until the following Friday, and it's a maximum of one voucher per transaction. As usual, just make sure you read the terms and conditions carefully: There are certain products - including cigarettes and petrol - that the vouchers cannot buy.

Voucher code promotions tend to be withdrawn quickly. If you've missed out on this one, you can use the following websites to track down new voucher codes as and when they come up:

And finally... a big chocolate sale!

Yup, you heard right. Thorntons is having an enormous chocolate sale, with up to 50% off dozens of items. Whoop!

Diet? What diet? You can check it out right here. Deals include this Winter Collection, (reduced from £60 to £25), this Continental chocolate box (reduced from £10.99 to £5.49) and this box of assorted toffee (down from £4.99 to £2.49).

These items are likely to fly off the shelves, so I think you'll need to act fast to bag the best bargains.
