The best websites for bargain-hunters

If you love nothing better than hunting out a bargain, make sure you check out these top websites!

Since becoming the money-saving queen of lovemoney.com, I’ve discovered more and more ways to save money - which, in my opinion, is pretty fantastic!

There are several websites out there that can help you to pocket a few extra pennies. So in this article, I’m going to highlight the very best websites to use if you're determined to hunt out a bargain!

Shopbots

If you want to ensure you’re getting the very best deal on your purchases, it's a good idea to use what's known as a shopbot, before you buy anything online.

The word shopbot simply stands for ‘shopping robot’. Shopbots are handy search engines that allow you to scour the web for whatever item you’re after and find it at the best price. So whether you’re looking for a new television, a CD, or a book, make sure you use a shopbot!

Good shopbots to check out are Kelkoo, Pricerunner, and Shopping.com. However, if you’re after books, CDs, DVDS, or games, it’s worth checking out Find-book.co.uk, Find-CD.co.uk, Find-DVD.co.uk and Find-games.co.uk respectively.

Alternatively, if you want to download your favourite tunes onto your MP3 player, take a look at Comparedownload.com.

Great groceries

Similarly, if you want to get the very best deal on your groceries, make sure you pay a visit to mySupermarket.co.uk. This nifty website allows you to track how much your shopping would cost at each of the UK's four major supermarkets (Sainsbury's, Tesco, ASDA and Ocado/Waitrose).

You can then select the basket of goods from whichever supermarket works out to be the cheapest. The website will also tell you when you can 'swap and save' – so you’ll really get the best value for your money.

iPhone apps

OK, so this isn’t strictly a website, but there are now several iPhone apps that can help you hunt out the best deal.

Shopbot Sccope has its own iPhone application that allows you to scan the barcode of products in-store, so you can check the price against other retailers before you buy. It also has a graph at the bottom of each product page, to show you when retailers hike or drop their prices during the year.

Similarly, iBarcode lets you scan the barcode of a product and find the best prices. It currently works in the US, UK, Germany and France. All you need to do is hold your iPhone over the barcode and once it’s recognised, the app will find the best offers on the internet for whatever product you're buying.

Top travel deals

If you’re hoping to jet off on holiday in the not too distant future, but you don’t want to break the bank, make sure you check out websites kayak.co.uk, travelzoo, and skyscanner.net.

These websites allow you to compare a range of holidays, hotels, and flights, so that you can choose the cheapest option!

Builder bargains

If you’re getting any kind of building work done in your home, it’s always worth getting several quotes for the job.

A really easy way to do this is through mybuilder.com. Simply register on the website (for free), post the job you need doing, and wait for builders to get back to you with a quote.

I absolutely love this website because it’s so easy to use. What’s more, you can also check out customer feedback on the website, so you know you won’t be getting shoddy work for your money.

Voucher codes

If you’re really after a bargain, make sure you regularly take a look at voucher code websites such as:

These fabulous websites are packed full of codes to help you save money whenever you shop online. So before you make a purchase, find out whether there’s a code you can use for your chosen retailer to gain a discount. Simply enter the code in the specified box at the online checkout and off you go - just make sure you copy the code exactly as it is.?

You can find out more about voucher codes in Where to find secret voucher codes.
