SSE launches 'free' unlimited broadband deal

Updated on 27 April 2015 | 3 Comments

Get a cheaper broadband deal with an energy provider!

Energy provider SSE has moved into the broadband market, with an eye-catching deal promising two years of unlimited broadband for free.

It is also offering two years of fibre optic broadband at half price with a monthly line rental of £12.

The deals are available on the Everyday Broadband + Talk Weekend, Everyday Broadband + Talk Anytime (£20 line rental), Superfast Fibre + Talk Weekend and Ultrafast Fibre + Talk Weekend packages.

Each package comes with a free wireless router, free connection and inclusive calls to UK landlines. You’ll also get an 18 month free subscription to Internet Security Suite.

Following the introductory period, you’ll pay £8 a month for the standard package, £20 for superfast fibre optic and £25 for ultrafast fibre optic.

The offer is available to all customers, whether or not they buy gas and electricity from SSE.

SSE Telecoms

Believe it or not, SSE Telecoms has been around since 2006, offering services for households and businesses. It claims to be the only energy company that offers phone and broadband deals too.

All of the billing and customer service is handled by the same customer service time as the energy supply side of the business.

One of the perks is that if you have your home energy and telecoms with SSE and you move house, you can take it all with you, meaning less fuss.

A final note

Just because a broadband deal is 'free', doesn't mean that it comes without fees for line rental and set-up. And after the introductory period is up, prices will jump. Make sure you're able to cover the costs when it does.
