Marks & Spencer considering launch of 'Sparks' loyalty card

M&S to trial new Sparks loyalty card, with a potential launch later this year.

Marks & Spencer has now confirmed full details of its SPARKS loyalty scheme. For a comprehensive explanation, read How does Marks & Spencer's new SPARKS loyalty scheme work?

Marks & Spencer is considering a card-based loyalty programme for customers, according to reports.

Reuters reported that the Sparks membership card will offer shoppers exclusive benefits and personalised offers, rather than follow a model like Tesco’s Clubcard scheme where you earn points when you spend.

The move follows the billions of pounds spent on the redesign of M&S products, stores, supply chain logistics and website.

If trials are successful, Sparks could be launched in the autumn.

Rewarding M&S customers

Marks & Spencer has a loyalty card of sorts already in the form of the M&S Credit Card. You earn one M&S point for every £1 spent in store and one point for every £2 you spend elsewhere. For every 100 points you’ll get £1 in M&S reward vouchers. What’s more, you’ll get a bonus points voucher worth £5 when you sign up.

The card is pretty good too. You get 19 months’ worth of purchases with no interest to pay. You’ll also get 0% on balance transfers for 15 months on transfers made within the first 90 days of account opening, with a 2.9% transfer fee.

You can also earn points with the M&S Current Account, with one point for every £1 spent in store. You also get a £100 gift card when you switch, as well as access to a 6% regular saver.
