TalkTalk to hike phone and broadband prices from October 2015

Household bills set to rise again for millions of TalkTalk customers.
TalkTalk is putting its prices up for the second time this year.
The provider has announced a fresh set of hikes for its phone and broadband users from 1st October with more to follow from 1st December.
TalkTalk customers were hit with price increases of up to 43% just three months ago, but now will face rises of up to 50%.
What’s changing?
From 1st October the cost of standard line rental is rising from £16.70 to £17.70 a month – a 6% increase.
Meanwhile value line rental, which allows you to pay for a year upfront, is being hiked from £180.36 to £191.16 a year.
The price of the Simply Broadband deal is jumping from £5 a month to £7.50 a month – a 50% rise. This will come as a shock to customers who were just hit with a 43% rise in June 2015 when the price changed from £3.50 to £5.
From 1st December the call connection fee, which is charged when you make calls outside your package, will rise from 16p to 17p a call.
At the same time the access charge to call service providers using 084, 087, 09 and 118 numbers will increase from 5p to 7.5p per minute (a 50% rise) for calls from landlines and from 20p to 25p per minute for calls made from mobiles (a 25% rise).
Standard and discounted international calling rates are also changing. You can see how here.

What TalkTalk says
A spokesperson for TalkTalk said: "While some prices are increasing, TalkTalk remains Britain's best value provider, with our customers saving up to £134 a year in comparison to BT and getting more for their money.
"We're investing in adding more to our packages to meet our customers’ ever-increasing needs. We're the only provider to offer totally unlimited broadband as standard, we've added more TV content, a free mobile SIM in our Plus package, and we're giving all customers free internet security software."
What can customers do?
If you’re unhappy about the price rises you can leave your contract penalty free by giving TalkTalk 30 days’ notice.

I changed from TT to BT earlier this year mainly because I was paying for high speed fiber optic with TT and not getting the download speed. I suspect mainly because TT in order to cut prices are putting too many customers down the same fiber optic cable which made it very slow. With TT, I was getting between 2.5 and 7MBS whereas with BT it is always in the 20's. In actual money terms, this year compared to TT, I am saving money as I signed up during one of BT's sales. However I think it will still be worth paying a bit more, as with TT I was paying extra for a speed I was not getting. Just as a final point, the TT engineer when I changed to fiber optic had to go to the local BT junction box to do my connection. When I changed over to BT their engineer had to do the same and from the ensuing conversation I had with him when he was trying to change me over he found some very strange things had been done with the wiring in so much there were two telephone lines connected to my line.

Looks like TT wait to see what BT's price rises are and set their tariffs just a bit cheaper ? The Value Line Rental used to be an attractive deal, however in recent years the saving has become much less so, now it'll only be £1.77 a month. I do like the10% early payment offered to direct debit customers to settle monthly calls within 24 hours of being billed - if that extends to line rental I think I'll just start paying that monthly as well.
