Brilliant bargain iPhone 6s rivals

Updated on 24 September 2015 | 0 Comments

Forget the iPhone 6s - you can get the same features at a fraction of the price with these rival handsets.

Last week Apple announced the details of their new iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus smartphones, leaving tech fans salivating.

The new phones boast '3D touch', a 12 megapixel (MP) rear camera, a 5 (MP) front camera and 4K video shooting. And they come in rose and gold as well as the standard iPhone colours.

But as we all know these aren’t exactly budget handsets: the iPhone 6s comes in at £539, and that's just for the 16GB model, and go as high as an eye-watering £789 for a 128GB iPhone 6s Plus.

However, the good news is that there are plenty of phones out there that offer similar features at a fraction of the price.

We’ve found 11 alternatives to get you started.

YotaPhone2

Price: £440 from YotaPhone

YotaPhone is a relatively unknown Russian mobile company.

The YotaPhone2 is arguably better than the new iPhone, which is why it isn't exactly cheap either. The major selling point is that it has two screens! You can personalise the second screen with memorable photographs or news from your favourite media outlet.

The YotaPhone 2 allows you to shoot full HD video on the five inch AMOLED screen, and it comes with hefty 32GB storage.

The let downs are in the cameras: the main camera is only 8MP while the front has a 2.1MP camera. It does have two days of battery life on standby, though.

Alternatively, you could get the first generation YotaPhone for £220. It’s largely the same, although it has a better 13MP front camera, oddly.

Microsoft Lumia 930

Price: £294.98 from Microsoft

Microsoft’s Lumia 930 also comes with a 20MP camera, putting the ‘mega’ in mega pixel. It has a five inch screen and OLED display along with 32GB of memory.

Microsoft claims that the standard battery life can be as long as 16 days, a major plus point.

You can choose from a green, white, orange or black handset.

Huawei Honor 7

Price: £228.51 from TinyDeal

Huawei is the biggest Chinese smartphone firm to crack the western market.

Its latest offering comes with an ultra-sharp 20MP rear camera and a 5.2 inch screen 1080p screen. Weighing in at 157g, the Huawei Honor 7 holds up to 64GB and comes with 3GB of RAM. Dual SIM cards allow you to keep your personal and professional life separate, but stick to just one handset.

Xiaomi Mi 4i

Price: £169.90 from Amazon UK

The Mi 4i has a polycarbonate casing with a soft-touch matte finish and anti-grease coating. The five inch screen has a 178-degree wide viewing angle in high resolution. A 13MP main camera is enhanced with a torch feature and two-tone LED flash. The front 5MP camera comes with a ‘beautify’ mode and selfie timer. It comes with 16GB of storage.

You can get it in white, orange, light blue or pink.

UMI Iron

Price: £119.62 from Geekbuying

UMI is the one to go for if you value security. The Iron’s Eyeverify system scans vein pattern and precise positioning of the pupils to make a match before you can unlock the phone.

The 5.5 inch full HD handset has a 13MP rear camera and an 8MP ‘selfie’ camera. You can even add dual SIM support.

Ulefone Be Touch 2

Price: £132.91 from Geekbuying

The Ulefone Be Touch 2 has a 5.5 inch 1080p screen, a 13MP camera and a fingerprint scanner on the front. Capacity-wise, the Be Touch 2 has 16GB of memory and 3GB of RAM.

It's not available in the UK yet but you can get it shipped for free with Geekbuying.

Bluboo X6

Price: £86.21 from Geekbuying

Dual SIM is a popular feature among these handsets. With the Bluboo X6, the SIM tray doubles as a Micro SD slot.

It has a 5.5 inch screen along with a 13MP dual-LED flash camera at the rear and an 8MP selfie camera at the front. It also offers full HD recording, so you can make your own home movies.

EE Harrier

Price: £209.99 from Rakuten

EE offers the Harrier, with 16GB of memory, one 13MP main camera and 2MP front camera, all on a 5.2 inch screen.

Moto G

Price: £149 from Motorola

If you want something that works for a tighter budget, the Moto G might be for you.

It has a smaller 4.5 inch screen, a 5MP rear camera and a 1.3MP front camera.

Vodafone Smart Ultra 6

Price: £125 from Vodafone

Designed by Vodafone, the Smart Ultra 6 has a 5.5 inch full HD screen and space for a 16GB memory card. The 13MP rear-facing camera has an LED flash bulb and a small microphone port. There’s also a 5MP selfie camera.

According to Vodafone, the Smart Ultra 6 has two days of battery life.

Wiley Fox Storm

Price: £199.99 from Wiley Fox

From little known British brand Wiley Fox, the Storm has a 5.5 inch screen with an impressive 20MP main camera and an 8MP front camera. For a bit more artistry you can try out slow motion camera, burst mode and time lapse. The device also has full HD video recording and expandable memory of up to 128MB to save all of those home movies.

It's not on the market yet but along with its sister handset, the Swift, it's one to watch.
