Virgin Media to hike broadband bills

Updated on 16 September 2015 | 4 Comments

Broadband-only customers will see their bills rise from 1st November.

Virgin Media's broadband-only customers will see their bills rise by as much as 6% from the start of November.

Thousands will have to pay an extra £1.75 each month.

So, for example, if you are on a 50Mb broadband package then your monthly bill will rise from £28.50 to £30.25, a 6.1% increase.

Those on the 100Mb broadband package will see their monthly bill jump from £33.50 to £35.25, while those on the 150Mb broadband package will see bills increase to £42.75 from £41.

The firm said that it never likes to increase prices, but was investing heavily to boost its network with a speed boost coming later this year.

Leave penalty free

If you are affected by the price rise, you can walk away from your Virgin deal without having to pay a penalty. Ofcom rules mean that providers have to allow customers to leave penalty-free if they did not inform customers of a future price rise when the customer signed up to the deal.

You have until the end of October to notify Virgin that you want to leave.
