Aldi to launch online shopping service from 2016
Aldi has announced plans to take its business online.
Aldi has announced plans to begin selling some of its stock online.
Boosted by record sales and a growing share of the UK market, it will commence selling certain items on the web from early 2016.
Aldi will initially be selling wine by the case via its online service, before making non-food ‘Specialbuys’ available online from spring. Specialbuys vary widely: cycling accessories, chainsaws and Halloween costumes are among the current and upcoming offers.
It will offer shoppers the choice of home delivery or collection from third party locations, giving a degree of flexibility to the service.
Aldi says that the move is part of its long-term growth and investment strategy in the UK. However, it's not all good news - a spokesperson told loveMONEY that an online groceries division is not on Aldi’s radar.

Strong performance
Aldi reported record UK and Ireland sales of £6.893 billion during its last financial year, up 31% on the previous year – equivalent to around £31 million in extra sales revenue every week during 2014.
Matthew Barnes, CEO of Aldi in the UK and Ireland, said that the retailer refused to be beaten on price. “We’re maintaining a significant price gap of at least 15% on an average basket of goods,” he said. “People are seeing that value at the checkout, tasting the quality at home and coming back to do a full weekly shop, time and time again.”
