The MBNA Platinum Dual Credit Card Visa
Donna Werbner reviews the MBNA Platinum Dual Credit Card Visa. Is this piece of plastic worth putting in your wallet?
The MBNA Platinum Dual Credit Card Visa offers ten months at zero per cent interest on both balance transfers and purchases for ten months.
This means you don’t need to worry about a nasty trick called negative order of payment. The interest rate on both types of debt is equal, so MBNA can’t sneakily stop you from paying off the cheap debt before the more expensive debt.
But unfortunately, there are better interest-free cards out there, which also avoid negative order of payment AND last for longer periods.
However, this card does have one thing that makes it stands out from the crowd.
It allows you to transfer money into your bank account, for a handling fee of four per cent. So, you could use the card to pay off an expensive overdraft, and then pay off the debt on the card gradually over ten months, interest-free.
It’s true that other cards issued by MBNA also allow you to do this, and many have longer nought per cent periods on balance transfers.
But the MBNA Platinum Dual Credit Card Visa is the only card that offers as much as 10 months interest free on purchases AND allows you to transfer money into your bank account at the same time.
Just bear in mind that, after ten months, the interest rate on this card shoots up to a whopping sixteen point nine per cent! To avoid this, simply make sure you’ve paid off your balance in full before the interest-free period is up.
