Virgin Red app: save money at Virgin with new loyalty scheme

Updated on 04 November 2015 | 1 Comment

New loyalty scheme Virgin Red offers users discounts and special offers on everything from experiences to coffee.

Virgin has launched a new app called Virgin Red, which gives users access to special discounts and offers in return for filling out quizzes, completing challenges and spending money.

Earning points with Virgin Red

When you register for the app, you are immediately given 50 points. The more points you earn, the better offers you will unlock from 'the vaults'. So once you hit 100 points you get access to Vault One (example rewards include £18 off at Cowshed Trio), 400 points gets you Vault Two (a £10 e-voucher to spend with Virgin Trains) while 700 points unlocks access to Vault Three (a membership at a Virgin Active gym).

There's also a host of special offers available no matter your points balance, such as buy one, get one free on coffee at Caffe Nero or free body balm when you spend £15 at Cowshed.

Your points, and the offers in the vault, reset on the first of each month.

Getting better rewards from Virgin Red

Virgin has launched the app in an effort to build up data on the customers who use the group’s wide variety of companies, from Virgin Atlantic to Virgin Wine.  A study last year found that the group’s six largest UK companies have a massive 14.5 million customers, but only 10% of those use more than one Virgin service.

So expect plenty of cross-selling on the app in an effort to convert customers into brand followers.

With this in mind, it isn’t surprising to discover that one of the key ways you can build up points in order to get access to ‘the vaults’ that contain better rewards is by shopping with the various Virgin companies. Most of the rewards are also based around Virgin companies, with discounts on Virgin Wines, competitions to win Virgin Active gym membership and money off Virgin Experience days.

Virgin Red is not going to change your life, but it's certainly worth having a play around with to see if you can save yourself some cash. The app is available on iPhones and Android.
