Turkey-mergency: Direct Line promises cooked replacement turkey if you burn the Christmas dinner

Replacement turkey delivered to your door within hours... but there's a catch.

If you are nervous about getting your Christmas turkey cooked right this year then you might want to take a look at a new insurance policy launched by Direct Line.

The ‘turkey-mergency’ service offers you a same-day replacement if your turkey ends up undercooked, dry, burnt or inedible on Christmas Day. The new turkey will already be cooked so you don’t have to worry about getting it wrong again. What's more, the service is completely free.

The gimmick has come about after Direct Line conducted a national survey that revealed 23% of us consider cooking the perfect turkey our biggest Christmas worry. The vast majority of us (68%) said we had never had a perfect turkey on Christmas Day.

“The festive period should be full of fun and joy,” says Wendy Pearson, head of marketing at Direct Line Insurance. “We hope our Christmas turkey-mergency service saves the day for those who register successfully.”

What’s the catch?

Unfortunately, the majority of us will do battle with the turkey without the help of Direct Line. You need to live within three miles of the insurer’s special Christmas kitchen in Camberwell in order to be able to claim a free turkey.

You also need to register for the ‘turkey-mergency’ service at directlineturkeyfix.com before the big day.

Then if you do have a poultry emergency on Christmas Day you must tweet @Directline_UK using the hashtag #merryfixmas to get your hands on a replacement bird.

The #merryfixmas campaign by Direct Line continues the #directfix social media campaign that has been going on for the past six months. More than 500 people have now used the hashtag to get help with commonplace problems such as travel nightmares, weather-related woes and even fashion dilemmas.
