Have an unforgettable Valentine's Day without spending a fortune thanks to these cracking deals.

According to research from Verdict Retail, we’ll spend an estimated £980 million on Valentine’s Day this year, a whopping £15 million increase on last year.

Of course, you don't have to break the bank to romance the special person in your life. Check out our guide to the very best moneysaving Valentine's Day deals on everything from food to flowers.

Meals out (and in)

Meals are an easy way to enjoy some time together with some delicious food and top tipple.

Buyagift is selling traditional afternoon tea for two vouchers which are valid across England, Wales and Scotland for just £36.

At Prezzo you can bag a three course meal, an aperitif and a digestif for £24.95, or £14.50 for a two-course lunch.

The Valentine’s set menu at Zizzi is £21.95, complete with three courses and a glass of prosecco. It's available from 12th-14th February. Ask Italian has a similar deal but instead of prosecco your meal comes with a cup of coffee or tea.

Meals at home are also a popular option if you want to enjoy a peaceful meal at home.

For something really lavish, head over to M&S for the Valentine’s Day Dine in for Two for £20. Choose a starter, main course, side, dessert and a bottle of wine or cava and a box of chocolates, all for just £20. The offer is available from 11th-15th February.

Morrisons is doing a Meal Deal for Two for £15 from its Signature range, available from 10th February. If you want to stray outside the set menu it has oysters for 25p each, on sale from 8th-14th February. They’re usually priced at 60p each so it’s quite the bargain.

Lidl is taking some tips from France this Valentine’s, offering a pack of 12 escargots for £1.99 and a selection of French cheeses for £1.99 each. Madeleines, macarons, pork terrine and crepes also feature on its range.

Of course, your special meal wouldn’t quite be the same without a bit of fizz to round it off.

Pick up a bottle of French Champagne Brut, available for £9.99 from Lidl.

Veuve Monsigny Champagne Rose Brut NV is £13.99 from Aldi.

A bottle of Pierre Darcys Champagne Brut NV is a bargain £9 from Asda.
