Your say: should George Osborne resign as chancellor?

A surprising number of you think it's time for the chancellor to call it a day.

George Osborne’s Budget speech has caused a lot of commotion since it was delivered last week.

Proposed cuts to disability benefits forced work and pensions secretary Iain Duncan Smith to resign just two days after the speech, describing the cuts as “a compromise too far”.

Labour MPs have been pressing Osborne to explain how he’ll fill the £4.4 billion left by the U-turn. Several have even called for the chancellor's resignation. Shadow chancellor John McDonnell added: “The behaviour of the chancellor over the last 11 days calls into question his fitness for office he now holds.”

Far from a crazy idea, it seems that the vast majority of you agree, as our poll results below show:

George Osborne addressed MPs yesterday (22 March) saying that he was sorry Duncan Smith had resigned and that he had learned from the mistakes which led to the controversial cuts being shelved.

Osborne is likely to face further questioning on Thursday in front of the Treasury Select Committee despite the key focus being on the Europe.

But the crucial question remains: who would you put in his place as chancellor? Let us know by voting in the poll below!
