JD Wetherspoon launches takeaway tea and coffee: how does it compare to Starbucks, Costa and the rest?
As pub chain JD Wetherspoon launches bargain beverages, we look at how they compare on price to major coffee chains like Starbucks, Costa and Caffe Nero
JD Wetherspoon has started offering takeaway tea and coffee for only 99p.
The popular pub chain has joined the likes of Starbucks, Costa and Caffe Nero in giving us our regular caffeine fix on the go.
The deal includes Lavazza filter coffee and Tetley tea, and will be available at its 950 pubs across the country.
Most Wetherspoons pubs open at 8am and many are located in towns and city centres, making it easier for people to grab a cup on the way to work, said John Hutson, JD Wetherspoon chief executive.
“Our coffee is extremely popular with our customers," he said. "We sell more than one million cups a week in our pubs across the UK and believe that our customers will welcome the opportunity to enjoy a takeaway cup too, at just 99p.”
There’s talk of more takeaway options in the near future, starting with drinks rather than food – so we might see more people doing the morning pub run before work!

Unsurprisingly, the Wetherspoon's offering is one of the cheapest on the market, but how does it fare against its rivals? We've gathered the prices of standard takeaway tea and filter coffee at some of the UK's leading high street coffee chains.
