Asda's La Moneda Reserva Malbec named best in the world for under £15
You can pick up a bottle of one of the best wines in the world for less than a fiver from Asda.
A £4.37 bottle of red from Asda has been named one of the best wines in the world.
La Moneda Reserva Malbec won the best single-varietal red under £15 in the Decanter World Wine Awards. The Chilean red scored highly for its flavours of "freshly-crushed black fruit, creamy vanilla yoghurt and pepper spice".
Ed Betts, Asda’s Wine Buying Manager said: "La Moneda Reserva Malbec is the perfect example of how we’re able to offer shoppers exceptional quality at low prices. It is a perfect match for barbecued meats."
A bottle normally costs £5.75, but it's currently on offer for just £4.37. It's been so popular that the flurry of orders has crashed the supermarket's online Wine Shop.
English wine wins
English wines performed well at the awards, with 90% of entries receiving a medal. Pinot Noir Gusborne won the best red over £15 and Chardonnay Kits Coty Estate, made in Chapel Down Estate in Kent, was the best white wine over £15.
Marks & Spencer has seen a huge 74% rise in sales of English wine over the last two months compared to last year – sales of Chapel Down Sparkling Rose are up by around 200%.
