Elderly lady strikes gold with 'dusty old coin' discovery

The woman found her late-husband’s coin collection and took it to an auction house – with surprising results.
An elderly lady who took a selection of her late-husband’s coins to an auction house was shocked to discover they were actually made of solid gold and worth thousands of pounds.
The unidentified lady took some jewellery along with the coins to a valuation day held by JP Humbert Auctioneers in Northants.
The jewellery was valued by expert Rupert Pink at a few hundred pounds.
The woman then presented the bag of 'old brass coins’ she had found at home to the auctioneer.
'Gift from beyond the grave'
When she emptied the 30 coins from the bag, Pink saw they were in fact full sovereign coins made out of 22-carat gold.
Pink said: "When I told the lady what the coins were, she really couldn't believe it and said that they felt like a gift from her late husband from beyond the grave.
"Apparently she never knew of the coins existence until she was clearing out the chest of drawers prior to moving into a residential home for the elderly.
"Her late husband must have put them there some years ago."
Each coin was valued at £200, with the collection earning the lady more than 6,000 in total.
Pink said: "With post Brexit gold prices jumping, it's a great time to sell gold - soveriegns, Krugerands, gold collectors coins, gold jewellery and anything similar.
"If anyone wants to sell, we can organise to take the items away and place them in our International auction."
